Sinkspire Rock
A solitary spire of weathered stone juts skyward from the endless mud flats of Tarnmuck Reach, its jagged form standing as a rare landmark in an otherwise featureless expanse. Known as Sinkspire Rock, the spire's base is one of the few stable spots in the Reach, attracting scavengers, travelers, and the occasional smuggler seeking firm ground. Faint grooves crisscross the stone, hinting at an ancient purpose now lost to time. The has a foreboding reputation, with locals claiming it “sings” during heavy rains, its deep, hollow hum unsettling even the hardiest Muckers.
Geography
The rough stone surface of Sinkspire is pocked with erosion marks and streaked with pale deposits of salt and brine. It rises unevenly, resisting the pull of the mud below. A ring of firmer ground encircles the base, giving scavengers enough space to camp or sort their findings.
History
The origins of Sinkspire Rock remain a mystery. Some believe it is the last remnant of an ancient bridge or tower, while others speculate it marks the grave of a forgotten giant. Stories tell of scavengers disappearing after attempting to scale it, leading to its reputation as a cursed or sacred site. The name “Sinkspire” comes from the belief that it rises only because the mud around it keeps everything else sinking.
