The Oven

The Oven is Awarth's notorious prison complex, perched on a sweltering island in the middle of The Wound. Operated by The Hooks, whose prison staff are grimly nicknamed “Bakers,” the Oven is infamous for its unbearable heat, a result of the island’s constant exposure to geothermal activity and the acrid waters surrounding it. Though not hot enough to intentionally burn, the oppressive conditions are relentless, adding to the misery of those incarcerated within its ironclad walls. For the prisoners, life in the Oven is a grueling mix of stifling discomfort and unrelenting labor, while the Bakers enjoy relative creature comforts, including cooled quarters. Feared across Awarth, the Oven is as much a deterrent as it is a punishment, its searing reputation keeping most citizens in line—or so the Hooks claim.

Architecture

The Oven is a hulking, fortress-like structure of heat-blackened stone and iron, its towers jutting upward like jagged teeth from the waters of the Wound. Designed for containment rather than comfort, its narrow, barred windows and thick, insulated walls trap the oppressive heat inside.

Defenses

Surrounded by the Wound and patrolled by Hook-operated skiffs, the Oven has a reputation as an island fortress nearly impossible to escape.
