Czenova is the name of both one of the Eight States of
Chronan and its
capital city, which is the largest city in the whole known world. The state was ravaged by the great war between
The Order and the forces of chaos some 300 years ago. The destructive magics released in the war turned most of the lands into desolate badlands known as "The Waste". Only the capital city was spared, thanks to its mighty defenses. Entering the Waste is strictly forbidden, and all travel to and from the capital city happens via
airships.
During the Ashen Age, Czenova was a flourishing
magocracy, ruled by mythical wizard-kings. The gathering of
the Eight Prophets brought with it the Steaming Age as the last of the kings, Vladislaf VII, was overthrown. Thanks to the technological innovations of its citizens, Czenova became the center of the Eight States, which brought the war to its gates. Despite the catastrophic events, the city of Czenova kept expanding, and tall smokestacks and high-rise buildings rose on top of the ancient city. Clockwork machines keep the city running day and night, automatons doing much of the manual labor, leaving the citizens more leisure.
Underneath the capital, built within the ancient ruins and sewers, is the dark and dank settlement of those shunned by the society above, known as the
Undercity of Komplecza. The Undercity is home to the poor, the sick and the criminal, and it is said that
The Agents of Chaos sow their seeds of rebellion there.
The Inquisitors and the polis watch makes raids there on occasion, but the denizens of Komplecza are mostly left to their own devices.
The valley-like state of Czenova is bordered by the mountains of the
Brasswall Range on each side except to the west, where lies the expansive
Lutsvetz Marshlands. The lush jungle is home to lizardfolk, serpentkin and many strange creatures. The eastern parts of Lutsvetz were permanently damaged by the war, and are now known as the
Deadwood. On the northern parts of the state rise the
Bartof Highlands, which were once a rich source of coal. To the south-east lies
Jovanna's Pass, named after a famous pilot that lived during the war, regularly used by airships as it is the safest route over the mountains.
Ruins of other towns - largest of them being
Tsvetof, Volzenburg, Mirsk and
Kresztof - dot the Waste, each of them now forsaken ghost towns. The Waste also contains heaps of scrap metal and abandoned war machines left from the war, which are scavenged for parts by the dangerous constructs known as
Replicatons, self-repairing automatons tainted by the chaotic energies running wild.
