Copperhaven is both the name of one of the Eight States of
Chronan and its capital city. It lies on the northern coast of the continent, near
The Glimmering Archiourano. The majority of the people in the state have always been humans, and there are still remains of the original barbaric tribes living in the wilderness.
The northernmost peninsula of Copperhaven is reserved by the
Palladium Military Zone, where the army of Chronan is trained. It also contains the aerodrome for the largest
Air Brigade, known as "the Copperhawks". The zone is surrounded by 300 feet tall walls on the landside, behind which spreads the
capital city of Copperhaven. The city contains many auxiliary businesses to the military zone, such as metalworkers, gunsmiths and machinists. Due to the heavy fortifications and artillery, the capital is also called "The Iron City".
South of the capital city, on the
Scythe Plains, lies a solitary mountain known as
the Fallen Skyland, which was once part of the floating Archiourano. Legends say it was robbed of the
glimspar that held it aloft and crashed down. Whatever amount of the magical substance remained was long since mined out, and now just the empty husk remains. The Arkwright family used the glimspar to invent the first
airships. The family's bloodline has since expired, and their grand mansion lies in ruins near the Skyland on the plains.
Other settlements include
Bell Harbour,
Davenport,
Flymouth and
Rivet. At the edge of the dark and expansive
Sootwood lies the town of
Magpie's Nest, known for being controlled by the criminal Colt Gang. They are rumored to have ties to the nearby
Cobalt Tower, once a center of the
magocracy of Cobaltia, which now lies in ruins. The dephts of Sootwood and the
Lucidian Bay beyond it are also said to contain the remnants of an ancient berserker tribe that worships the sun, but they keep to themselves to preserve their customs.
Flowing through the state is a wide river
Streamfast, originating from the
Brasswall Range that borders the state from the south, and descending down the Lambeth Plateau. A famous inn named
The Homestead lies on its bank, powered by a great waterwheel.
The western part of the state is still barren from the War Between Order and Chaos, and the pockmarked lands are still called the
Perennial Battlefields. Therein stands the remains of
Warrender's Bastion, fortress of the Army of Order during the war. Beyond the battlefields, over the
Red River that is still tinted with blood of the fallen, lies the haunted
Gnarled Forest, which hides the forsaken
Cathedral of Chaos, once a site of worship for chaotic gods and the final stronghold of the forces of chaos. After the war, the surviving residents of the region were exiled to
the Freeisles, but the roaming undead, vengeful spirits and mutated beasts make the western reaches a dangerous place to trek.
In a valley within the Brasswall Range, built over ancient ruins, there lies a curious theme park called
The Brassic Park, containing automaton dinosaurs. The only viable pass south to
Jubileum is guarded by
Fort Montpassant, the house of a haughty family of halflings.
On the other side of the pass, the mountains grow taller still, turning into
The Skyward Peaks. Copperhaven has a close connection with the underground nations of dwarves, drow and deep gnomes, with one of their main gates - the
Westward Nethergate - located at the edge of the state.
