Reignstone is both the name of one of the Eight States of
Chronan and its sole city. The rest of the state is covered by the
Grandwood, an ancient and savage forest filled with mutated beasts and ruins of an ancient fey culture.
The
City of Reignstone is a formidable fortress in the middle of the dense forest, only reachable via
Airships or the old dwarven tunnel system leading into
The Skyward Peaks in the north. The majority of the population are dwarves and goliaths. The whole city is built into an ancient ziggurat of giants, with houses stacked on the steps known as "Terraces", as well as inside the echoing halls known as "Chambers". The outer Terraces houses the working class citizens, while the inner Chambers contains the dwellings of the wealthy. On top of the pyramid is an aerodrome for
airships to dock in. Steam-powered funiculars and elevators transport people and cargo up and down the ziggurat.
Two great rivers flow through the Grandwood, starting from the
Jewel Delta by the
Gulf of Mirages as the wide
Jewel Flow. By the estuary is the small fishing village of
Driftwood. In the junction of the two rivers lies the treetop town of
Squirrel's Nook, where you can still meet some feyfolk.
The
Emerald Flow passes the capital city, leading into the valley of
Aerdale deep in the mountains.
Aerdale contains a mighty dwarven citadel, independent from the Eight States, that The Order tried to conquer during the Gem War. At the southeastern corner of the mountain range, where the windy
Rimeheim Fjords begin, the
Eastward Nethergate connects a traderoute between the subterranean cities of
Netherspan and the eastern states.
The lesser
Diamond Flow leads past a sinister swamp known as
Mirleena's Bog into the mysterious
Feyfalls, where icy waters cascade from the snowy peaks among glittering crystals. Near the falls lie the
ruins of Teutanos, an ancient city of giants.
Deep in the Grandwood has been discovered the remains of four temples of the Eladrin and other fey folk, known as the
Autumn, Spring, Summer and Winter Palaces. Their mysteries have yet remained secret to the multitude of archeologists that brave the dangers of the forest and the wrath of the fey by researching the ruins. The archeologists have their main base known as
Camp Kelvin by the coast outside the forest on the
Magnapolis side.
