The Inquisitors
Symbol: red eye over the greatsword of Zaumaturge
The Inquisitors are holy agents working under The Metropolites and the city councils of the Eight States of Chronan, and are officially considered to be part of the clergy of Zaumaturge, the god of justice.
Their most important task is to hunt down worshippers of false gods, especially the dissidents who have named themselves The Agents of Chaos. As such, the inquisitors are required to be unwavering in their faith, although not to the extend of the Steam Knights. Recently, they have also been called to claim the chaos artifacts artifacts that have started to re-emerge around the world.
Although inquisitors work across the borders of the Eight States, each state has their own High Inquisitor as an elite officer in charge of recruiting new candidates and upholding the institution. To protect their true identities, the eight High Inquisitors are known only by personal epithets and often wear visored helmets:
The Curator/-trix, High Inquisitor of Reignstone
The Imperator/-trix, High Inquisitor of Copperhaven
The Navigator/-trix, High Inquisitor of Geigerport
The Preceptor/-trix, High Inquisitor of Jubileum
The Provocator/-trix, High Inquisitor of Parcivale
The Quaestor/-trix, High Inquisitor of Gardenoor
The Secutor/-trix, High Inquisitor of Czenova
The Vindicatror/-trix, High Inquisitor of Magnapolis
Whispered rumors speak of a ninth High Inquisitor, with a secret class of inquisitors working under them, specializing in espionage and assassination of the enemies of the Eight States, but all official sources deny their existence.
The official inquisitorial uniform is blood red, with the symbol of their organization embroidered into the chest. High Inquisitors wear ceremonial scarlet armor, a long cape and a full helmet covering their faces. These vestments have earned the inquisitors the feared monicker of "bloodcloaks".
