Raiding Requests

by Tink Coppertail

I talked to, or rather at the minotaur about getting some magical supplies for bettering arms and armors. I got pointed to others with supplies but mostly just little doodads and a few potions. Not nearly what I would need, so I went to talk with the Lady of Nine about the arrivals. She was talking to an elf when I came by. I talked to her about my group's encounter on the road and the eerie likeness of the new arrivals. She said that she'd have soldiers watch them. I also told her of the manifestation of the conversion, the blackened blood. She did mention on suspicion of spies previously, so I should hope that it helps distinguish the difference. She said that this group was seeking asylum and was surprised by how far East this group of Deep Lords were. While I had her attention I also inquired about procurement of magical material to help further the effort. She pulled me aside and made mention of how she could acquire a decent sum of crystals to craft with. I offered my labor and expertise for this effort. I mostly just want to pull this off to put Eval in his place, but no one but Calistria and I need to know that... The Lady of Nine said that I could go with a raiding party or equip them for their trip. She said that she'd send them to me later.

I went back to the forge to keep working while I waited for the party. While working one of the Deep Lords came by again. Couldn't tell much about them, they all dress the same and look pretty similar. He greeted me...differently... In draconic he said, "Wow, clothed, civilized, and a craftsman." Turns out Kobolds were they're from are feral. What? No warren? No organized workgroups? Apparently those forest Kobolds had to adapt to harsh forest life by building small villages in the swamps. They are always at war with the Negahi, the snake people.
The camp is unsettled with their presence with talk going around. They were heading east out of the forest. I warned them about Brentwood and the bramble creatures, but he seemed more concerned with the Western Pains. Their capitol city was attacked about four weeks ago. A messenger visited a few days before the attack. A slender elf looking individual wearing the "standard" look preached a positive message that turned dark. Saying something like leave the lands if you don't want the coming truth. The Deep Lord said that they should have listened. They also asked me not not call them creatures, preferring the phrase "tainted ones". Their small group fled but were met by roaming undead. They called the undead "it" more than "them" unlike how they referred to "the tainted". Might just be language semantics, but sounded weird to me. Anyway, they managed to evade most the undead because the undead started fighting the tainted and their other "kin".[converted?]They said that they hadn't seen much converted and that they were more worried about the skeletons. Apparently the tainted are immune to nature magics that deal with plant manipulation and they recover from wounds unnaturally rapidly. Their group in particular escaped with minimal casualties. Their group of about 130 were camped out nearby to try and get some food and information.
They handed me a scroll of paper saying that Nilashtu had a request and lord was informed that I was one who could help. They seemed a bit confused onto my name, turns out that that Deep Lords can't see color all to well or so I assume. The order would go to a weapon shop in Kreddlewood. I was a little skeptical as to the legitimacy of all of this, but they pulled out a dagger sliced their palm and showed red blood. They said that they understand the suspicion as many don't like their kin, but the council tolerates them. The Lord goes on saying that the watchers don't appreciate the Lady of Nine. I mention the Silver Knights but they was unfamiliar. I told them the knights were servants of Isolomon. They said the Isolomon was a "foul being". I quickly changed the subject back to the request. I reviewed the scroll and the requested item. This Nilashtu wanted a object to see through lies or hiding yourself. More specifically a Gem of Seeing, an item that would take 37,500gp of material [75k gp market value]... I only had 12,870gp raw assets after my buying spree in Brentwood! If no one claims that sword that Eval found, I might borrow a chunk of that material to complete this order.
I also ask how I should contact them if I do decide to take the request. They handed me a whistle with a beetle carved into it. They said "Blow to contact the Deep Lords" as the item was to be used for business and possibly payment. They assured me that it would bring assistance when required. I'd have to present the whistle on the arrival of those that come to clarify the possession. I told the Deep Lord that I COULD make it, but It would be a matter of time and supplies. I asked how soon that their boss was wanting it. They said that they'll be back and walked out. I looked over the whistle to figure out what it was. Turned out to be a conjuration spell imbued into it with some advanced aspects. I figure it to be a Extended Nature's Ally 4 Spell. The whole thing was worth about 48k gp, just over half the market worth of the stone...

After a bit, a group came by, the raiding party from my assumption. The party consisted of a minotaur, two satyrs, and three wood elves. One of the group looked druidic but I could only guess. Either way, they each requested an Amulet of Natural Armor +1 and offered me a handful of supplies to accomplish it. In total they had about six frestine crystals that were about 2500gp each and 600gp of misc. supplies. They also offer me a reptilian scale of some sort. My best guess us that they were from Zaltarian but as for how or why they had them I didn't ask. After running my numbers I figured that I could craft each of the amulets for 6k gp which still left me with 9600gp. They wanted me to use the rest of the wealth for the cause, but I refused. I told them that the better equipment they have, the more likely they will succeed. The more they succeed the more I can do for everyone else. I ended up pricing the remaining gold into four +1 weapons for the group. The minotaur's weapon already was at +1 so he got a bit of the short end, and so will one other. They tanked me and went off to go do their thing while I went to work. Maestro Barrelchest, the minotaur forge master, started to help me with these weapons. He'd make the raw weapon, and watch me as I got to work imbuing it. Now THIS is the work I've come to love. Working full tilt 20hours a day at speed that would put others to shame. Feels good too to not have a master watching over my shoulder. I should hope that these raiders will make good use of these to bring back plenty of supplies. I should be able to crank out all 96oogp of items in about a day in a half unlike the conventional crafters. I do love my job.
