We got past the nine legged spider's little game and continued to the other side of this underground courtyard. Tel was gushing at the dwarven architecture as muldnal do for fine buildings. The door on this far side was closed and someone heard movement on the other side. Lily just ended up knocking and the was asked who's there in a very ghoul sounding voice. Skrel stepped up to say we were travelers looking to pass through without incident. They scoffed and wanted something in return as fresh meat rarely came through. I heard a very high pitch whistle ring out and the way others reacted I think some of them heard it too. It wasn't quite so high as my cave whistle, but It was to the same effect to coordinate an ambush. Skrel tried to threaten them hard, as in using their soul as a snack hard... They wouldn't have it and a group snuck up from behind us. They were not prepared.
Kniana was the fist to act. She suddenly was in some kind of chain armor and pulled a warhammer from somewhere... To my knowledge she only had a curve blade. She did something that resulted in what looked like Obscuring Mist. Well I didn't get a good look as I reacted myself with a Chain Lightning from the glove's staff. It did pretty well this time as they were pretty grouped up. It fried two on the spot, and the others got cleaned up pretty quickly by the others I think. I wasn't really sure due to the mist. By that point I turned back to see the doors open and two more ghouls pretty far away inside the room. I heard that one had a bow and wasn't really interested in venturing in so I pushed my magics harder than usual to extend the range of my Stone Discus. I don't particularly like doing it, but I really didn't want to got hit myself. They dropped pretty quickly and seemed easy enough, at least until I saw Skrel down. He got back up but didn't seem all too happy. The next foe would be the more worrisome thing to loom over us.
Tamebrass asked me for my assistance with something or another. He said that there was something cursed inside the statue that wants to be removed at the end of the room. He then just ripped open a statue to have a...mummy? body? fall out. He said that it MUST be destroyed and the room is tainted. He seemed to be in pain about getting rid of this thing. There was an arcane symbol of a binding spell on the wiggling mass. It was a containment setup for something, I wasn't really sure and it seemed that I wouldn't have time to figure it out. I simply suggested a coup de grĂ¢ce to end it quickly. That turned out to be a not-so-great suggestion...
Tamebrass SLAMMED his new axe into the thing and an arcane explosion shot me back into the wall. I managed to avoid anything more than a nasty bruise. The bindings split open on the...thing. It was some collection of blackened slimy creature or creatures or... whatever slithered out. It formed some sort of blackened reflection of Tamebrass, screamed, and pilled over the stairs. It disappeared in the blink of an eye. That didn't stop Skrel from trying to shoot it with a Flaming Ray, but it just reflected the ray right back at him. Tamebrass filled us in that it called the axe and filled his mind with unimaginable things. He said it was from the world of the arisen ones or the first world, whatever that means. Apparently if our items leave this temple that "IT" would awaken. He said that the axe told him to destroy it, and he asked me to look at it because I know magic. Kniana healed the forming bruise as Skrel said that that thing was more or less disease incarnate, killer of several weakened gods. Either way it was going to wake up... I miss Naan...and apparently Skrel misses robbing travelers near Valerin... >:(
We followed the slime trail the thing left to try to kill it while it was likely still weak. We followed it to where there were some VERY dead Leng, done in many parts and all. Skrel and Kniana found the portal that The Traveler mentioned to us before. It needed three people to open. The three now dead people... Well I guess they had a captive as another shortfolk that knows Lily was in a cell. Someone she used to "run" with... Well while most the part talked to him, I went to recover these gems that The Traveler mentioned. I figure with these folk dead and the portal closed I'd be able to handle the mentioned crystals. I was able to find a few various rubies. They each had an arcane symbol and when I handled it I got a flash of the guy's face. Each stone were a psionic focus, magic via the mind. The gem seemed to connect to the silky headpiece. None of them seemed to be arcanely powered, so I collected all nine I could find. While the others did their thing.
While gathering I heard that Skrel had gotten some black market tools from the Halfling known as Brick. The dude just keeps getting shadier now... I'm going to have to have a contingency for him...
They kept doing their thing, Lily got locked in somewhere or something and I wandered away into another library. The spirit of the sword directed me to a specific book after I browsed the shelf. I picked up the silver backed book titled, "Wears of Dragon Kind" in draconic. It was written by Larse Skarlbrand. The forward read that it contained ancient smiting and breathe enchanting techniques. I thumbed through it a bit and oddest thing that stuck out to me was the use of glyph wards and replacing specific teeth with them. I wandered out the library while reading and Lily called me over.
Lily had found a room with various materials that I would be able to use for my rafting. Not too shabby of a find. She also asked me about a pristine sword she found. I told her it was likely magical due to the corrosive resistance alone. I looked it over and found a black snake symbol on the hilt of the longsword. This told me it was from a craftsman in Moraki and was Nagaji made. It likely had a poison well within the finely made +2 sword. I used my goggle to cast Detect Magic and found a strong Alteration magic. It was cursed with famine, a condition that causes food to rot in the wielder's hands. I wouldn't have trouble using it due to my Ring of Sustenance and I think Skrel hade a ring too. He already only used his one sword, and I rather like my tea. As much as I would have liked to look over a competitors' make ultimately we left it as it serves the same purpose I would have made it for. I can appreciate the effort. The Kobold way is to recycle what is useful for the greater group, but my ideals is to punish thieves by leaving...gifts.
Speaking of leaving, Tamebrass wanted to leave very badly. We left out a similar hidden wall as the first floor with Eval activating the triggers in the proper order. We evited the tomb about an estimated two day of travel through the Svendio desert to the Titan's heel. Tamebrass mad some rather tasteless jokes about "crocodile" boots and a fur coat directed at me and Skrel. Apparently, he doesn't know the difference between lizardkin and us Dragonkin, the dunce. I'll have to educate the all brawn, no brain glorified throw rug.
