We came to a split in the path after a bit. Eval said that he heard something off to the right. Skrel volunteered to go scouting. I kept looking for some more crystal in a picked clean area, but when he came back he made mention of finding a few things. Down one path was a broken rune gate from the Gliphkin lords. Makes me think they used this place as a crystal source. I wonder why since Baldir is so far away and has its own crystal caves by my understanding. The other path had a water filled tunnel and an area with crystal with a large one in the center. He said that it might be bait. Well I also voiced my concern about just why that crystal is still in this mine. I’d think that if it was really all that the others were led to believe that it would have been taken long ago. I think it made the others uneasy, but better that then unaware. While Eval crept down the path with the big crystal, Skrel used light on a stone to try to scope out the flooded tunnel. This just happened to douse Kniana in darkness. Must be hard for her without darkvision. I offered her the potion that we took outta the stranglereed as a just in case thing, but she found an everburning torch buried in her bag. If you can’t see in the dark, how you forget such a thing is beyond me. Either way I stayed back as Kniana crept forward past Eval only to suddenly go rigid and drop her torch.
Eval yelled and shot arrows before I even saw him draw his bow. I swear the trigger on this guy… But apparently Kniana got stunned by some crystalline slime. This musta been the thing that the other Kobolds warned us of. The thing that ate a Dragon. Well, lots of things happened from there. People kept getting stunned. Lilly cast some sort of spell and made all the crystals in the area react. Almost like a wave that “pinged” the big crystal. The weird thing is that they didn’t react when Skrel cast a spell. Makes me wonder where his magical fuel comes from. Well, after the incident in the main room I knew not to cast anything too grand, so I decided to try out what my crystalline kin used.
I took the throat stones that they offered me and clacked them together at this ooze. The stones hit with such a force that they popped outta my hand but the slime reacted seeming like it hated what happened. I was deafened, and I had to pick them back up only to be met with the slime in my face. It created some sort of appendage that seemed to crystallize and wholloped me before re-liquifying and encapsulating me. Nuh uh, I did NOT survive a plant monster to be eaten by a crystal monster… I cast Gust of Wind at point blank range to try to blow myself outta this thing. I didn’t get exactly what I wanted, but it did create an opening just large enough for me to squeeze away. I ran for the back and pulled out my thunderstone just in case. The others where doin all sorts of attacks on the thing and Skrel I think had 2 or 3 people he was dragging away from that thing’s stun. We all made it away from the thing as it was strong, but incredibly slow.
We regroup in the main cavern and talk plan. I said that I could prepare things to make fighting this thing trivial, but I would need a few prep days. I was thinking Silence to deal with the stunning vibration it was outputting and Cup of Dust to keep it in the one flooded area. That could even distract it enough to let us get by without having to fight it… Well, they agreed and as we were leaving we saw one of my kin. We talked about the “hunter” the ooze we encountered. Saying that we would be back. They said that it got a dwarf at one point. A dwarf? Here? I mean I heard they used to be miners and smiths, but so recently? More questions to ask these guys later. He helped guide us out of the cavern around the traps.
After we got outta the cavern I went to my cart to start working on the spells. I noticed a distinct lack of Bessy when I walked over and whistled for her in a slight panic. Turns out that other beetle reminded her about old burrowing habits. She buried herself in the ground nearby. I had forgotten they like to do that too. She hadn’t done it in so long. I just hopped in my cart to get to work, but just a few minutes later Eval knocked and yelled that the hunter was attacking the Kobolds! Most of my party, save for Kniana, rushed back into the cave.
After a run, I could see the damned thing in the distance. I pulled my Thunderstone again to get ready against this thing. I moved up, but got stunned by the damn vibrations again. It moved toward the Kobold’s nest and away enough that the vibrations were bearable. I then hucked the stone right by the thing. The thing reacted and shifted, it looked like I managed to stun it this time! I yelled out, “Brothers use your throat stones” but heard no reply. I hope that they didn’t already get caught. Arrows kept whizzing by this thing thanks to Eval and Skrel seemed to be getting more and more mad at not doing too much to it. I foolishly ran up to it again as it seemed I had the only things that could really do much to it. I hit the throat stones together again at it. Again I dropped them, again I was deafened, and this time small cracks started to form on the stones. I’m going to need a restoration if I keep this up… Lilly ended up offering me the potion that she brought to Maki’s back in Naan. I declined as this… really wasn’t a good time for that… She gestured me outta the way, and I gladly scooped up the stones and backed off. She… drank the potion. Ugh, I couldn’t have thought of a worse time for that… I may hate the whole lost and found thing, but this might get MY…guard?... killed. Well, the fire didn’t seem to do much on this thing, but it certainly did a number on her. The…backsplash? …the side effect?... Whatever, Lilly proceeded to soil herself in the corner, but not before somehow getting her pants off. Must be the lock picking practice… Turns out that potion worked like a charm in practice tho, so… yeah… While she was… busy I swapped to the late Coprl.’s glove again and tried to use the Chain lighting staff on the creature and the now encapsulated Skrel. From my understanding with his unusual appearance and all he is supposed to be immune to fire and lightning. My idea was to arc it back and forth dealing even more damage to the thing, butttttttt it was lightning-proof like him… All and all this thing was NOT going down. I tried to yell out a plan of leading it away. I figure we could tempt it into more of the Crystal kin’s stone modified bear traps. Or get it to fight the slumbering crystal elemental outside the cave. Or even get more people involved with our escort group out front. Well, I still tried it by clacking the stones gently and it seemed to work. The slime started toward me. I used my belt or Ironskin and Shield, finally, to try to protect myself if it got too close. Good thing too, it managed to stun me again. I think it was also dragging Skrel along with it. He ended up using my Tink Coppertail Contact Scroll™ of Fireball. It worked like a charm too. Seemed to go off perfectly. I’m just about ready to market them now. Anyway, it didn’t seem to faze the ooze past blowing a hole open much like my Gust of Wind earlier, but it did allow him to get outta it’s grasp.
I just kept clacking the stones trying to lead it away.
