It was so much for my free time as I put my plans into action. I started by checking on Kniana's cart. Draven was spooked but otherwise unharmed as was the cart itself. That was good at least. After that It was time to lure Tel into being my accomplice for the next step. I must heed the warning of watching who I can trust so I couldn't have talked to pretty much anyone else in the camp other than Tel. I'm not saying that I trust Tel, but I know exactly how to manipulate him into helping. I kept our conversation brief and vague hinting at adventure, stealth ops, and danger. He seemed more than eager to gobble up the chance. I told him that all he needed to do for the time was to follow Bessy and I with Draven and Kniana's cart to the crystalline caves.
That part was easy enough and without a word to anyone else in camp, we managed to convince one of the earth elementals to let us pass. Luckily enough, they weren't asking questions with the chaos of recovering from the attack. What was even more lucky was that I was able to find our path back to the mine after working in my cart most the trips before. There was a few close calls with more of the tainted, but hiding in the carts seemed to be enough to dissuade them. I also had Bessy burry as to not pick a fight. I guess that they are more mindless than I thought if simply looking unoccupied is enough to make them not pay attention. Even if there are carts in the middle of seemingly nowhere. I will have to "play dead" later if I get caught. We continues moving sneakily after that and about six hours or so we were able to make it back to the mines.
Thank Calistria for the good relation I have with my crystal kin now. My plan was to leave both carts and companions inside the mines away from the tainted. I would hope that the local Kobolds would aid me in keeping them safe. I know that they are too simple to attempt anything with my cart, and likely not much care for anything in Kniana's, but I did tell them that neither animal was food. They seemed willing to help now that they aren't constantly fighting for their lives. It was very reassuring to see them trapping the entrance of the mines after we pulled in. Now for the next part of the plan with the runegate.
I led Tel into the caves out to where Skrel pointed out a runegate. My idea was since Tel was a specialized rune mage that he could fix the gate and change it to take me either directly to Maki's or my group. Tel attempted to Scry on Maki using my familiarity but it didn't really work out. I know that it's not ideal to use some one else who is familiar, but I didn't have the time luxury to make a device myself. He was able to place him within a day's travel which should be accurate do to the happenings. He was also unable to get me directly to the rest of my group due to dimensional differences, but given that we know exactly where they were headed we could guess. He fixed up the rune gate and curiously enough it originally was connected to Baldir. I'll have to look into it more later but as for now, Tel was able to reroute the destination to the fey portal, erm, the bridge. At this point I told Tel that I couldn't guarantee his safety, but he was welcome to come with. He didn't even hesitate to join as the lure of adventure practically had him vibrating. He was going to get one hell of a story from all of this.
After using the gate we popped out right by what I would venture to say was the portal area. Runic writings covered the surface of a cracked black stone monolith. I'd have to come back and look when I had time. There was a portal shining a pale yellow light within the crack. Tel and I got through this portal with only a mild amount of nausea. On the other side was a bridge about 60ft wide and seemed to go on for miles. glancing over the edge I saw nothing but clouds and air. Eval probably even knows their name... After a hurried walk we came to a giant, my guess a cloud giant. I'd rather not deal with too much in terms of combat and whatnot here so I simply said that we were part of other group that had already gone through. Trying to catch back up after a rest. Well, they didn't seem to mind and let Tel and I threw without trouble. Really makes me wonder about how some of the things were getting out with someone like that on watch. Either they are in cahoots with them or there is a way past without the giant's knowledge. I don't like either situation, but that would have to wait. On the other side of the gate house there was what seemed to be a mirror of the bridge we had just been on, but the difference is that this side was degrading and falling apart. Not so much that we couldn't get past, but it would be difficult at minimum to try and run across. As we walked, I noticed that the crystals that I use in my gear would pulse at about the same rate as my heartbeat. I don't like what the winds are doing here, magic still worked but at a much weaker level. After the second trek we arrived at the far end of that bridge. There was another portal much like the one at the entrance to the area, but fully opened it seemed. This portal was much tougher to get through tho. My first attempt ended up throwing me back and nearly off the bridge. I was able to catch myself and pushed with planted feet the second time. We had arrived in the Fey King's prison realm...
