After clicking the stones a bit, the vibrations mysteriously died down. Not even seconds later Eval ran past me with lily unconscious. Well it seemed like he was trying to rum, but I've never seen him "run" so slowly. Well I wasn't sure what was happening so I just started to be sneaky and look for the ooze. I couldn't find the thing and that was making me really nervous until Eval came back. He said that it was dead and showed me it remains. It was a bunch of Frestine Crystals. I really whish that I coulda kept a part of that thing for production now... Especially since he had two 200gp, two 500gp two 1000 gp and an unstable looking one I told him was at least 10,000gp. It also kept releasing energy into the other crystals. To keep their value I told him to let them dissipate on one of the larger ones in the room. Can't use those ones anyway so I'm not worried about value. We then went to check on my crystal kin.
After a bit of starting down that hall I noticed that they had set out about nine or ten more of their traps. Some of them looked like they were ready to cave the tunnel even. I don't think they really would have needed us to kill that thing with that going on... But I did call out saying that the hunter was dead. After a bit a few came out in a celebration. They praised and anointed Eval with more of that paste they used on their fallen before. They also brought out a massive grub on a stick. Not something I'm unfamiliar with, but I know that I could 100% goad him into eating it. All I had to say was something like "when in Rome..." or something like that. Idk where it comes from, but it worked. Would have been rude to not participate in their celebration. After he ate it he seemed to get dizzy for a second. They said that it was a "vision worm" and that it liked mushrooms. They asked if the "great warrior" "see gods?" Eval said no and they seemed a bit disappointed. They led us back to the nest chamber where we were at before through a secret side tunnel. They slid a chest off of a ledge to the side that popped open. It was filled with things wrapped in raggedy cloth. The treasures they offered us for killing the hunter. Other than a rather large dragonfire pearl that they kind of stashed away these treasure were all for us. I've had custom orders before for pearls like that to be used as tongue piercings for performers to "breath fire." Anymore you can find smaller ones in that whisky they launched.
Inside was an adamantine breastplate, a magical bandoleer with daggers, a fleashy skull that seemed to be from a cyclops, and a few potions. I looked at the bandoleer and figured that the daggers have some returning effect since they had symbols that matched the slots. They said that the skull would speak, or rather yell at them and that it "not like grub." There was a cure moderate wounds potion and a rather old looking bottle with an enhanced bull's strength with some... unfamiliar properties... some floating bits in the liquid. After looking at it a bit close I saw the mark of the GOW! To find one of her works here! It seemed to be rather old tho judging by the sigil and symbol. I personally would likely pass on using it especially after what happened to Lilly, but still what a find!
Eval takes all the items for the time being and goes to find Skrel. I stay back to chat a bit with the kobolds to ask a few questions. I asked about any other dangerous things in the caves. I asked how big their warren was before they lost their "crystal lizard". I asked about their burial rights, the dwarf they mentioned before, about the pearl they chose to keep, and if they would consider accepting Calistria as their patron. After a bit of deciphering, I learned that there was nothing else dangerous in the caves as anything else was blocked by collapses. Their warren was about 600 strong before being attacked. To loose so many... They also used to reside deeper in the mines before it all flooded. Their burial rights involve them using a mucus they secrete and mixing it with mud in an paste that actually heals much like my bitterleaf oil and then they reclaim the stones to pass for the living to use. The paste seems a little too late, but it's their thing. The dwarf that they mentioned came through the runegate that Skrel found before breaking it and fighting a few kobold on his way out of the cave. After a bit of puzzling they figured that it was about 2 years ago. As for the conversion, they'd heard of her, but prefer more tangible things. Saying that they would try to find another "crystal lizard" to follow. After that bit of conversation I went to look at the crystals in the large room more properly.
After a bit Eval and Skrel came walking through. I caught up to them and they told me that the unstable crystal has the soul of the ooze in it and that the big crystal started speaking to him. I mean it wasn't unheard of for people to move their soul into objects to avoid death, but a crystal? Skrel said that the thing was too heavy for him. I would figure since the thing looked to be about my size. Eval also casually mentioned that the others got attacked outside. I got worried about Bessy but he said that she was fine. I offer her help, and turns out Skrel can drag about as much... We ended up brainstorming the whole walk back outside.
After getting back out It turned out that lily was on the cusp of death when Eval went by earlier. Skrel walks over and while bleeding, healed lily even more. Turns out he doesn't even use slots... Just what is up with this guy? I also healed myself with that trinket I prepped, and Eval also asked for a bit. Kniana, lily, and Skrel went back to look at the talking crystal while I went to work putting together a raft-cart thing to help drag the thing out. After a bit we got to work moving it and after two and a half hours managed to get it out and loaded into my cart. The thing is riding too low for my liking and is likely very near capacity with how heavy that thing looked. While moving it, Kniana mentioned that the crystal has some 40 souls inside or something. They are frozen in time since the war. Some soul inside knows RRRoshin and are part of the same guard. Now I'm very curious to his story past the dwarven crafts. There is certainly more to him than I had thought. They also want to continue to fight for their king, Taltarian, the ghost king.
