thrakelorn is possibly the only brelish military base i will set hoof in and there are 4 reasons for that
it's mostly centered around healing wounded soldiers rather than wounding more soldiers
while it's technically active it hasn't been especially relevant since the war ended so it's more of a quiet town than a military base
reidrans don't come out to droaam
and these folks are big fans of the yarrowfield rearguard because of some history here
the history is that during the war some aundairan soldiers were trying to track down hellebore's unit and in a regrettable case of mistaken identity they raided the base looking for the yarrowfield rearguard who had stopped here to recover from recent action
the rearguard defended themselves and the people here so they're local heroes
also hellebore's name carries a heavy reputation because of rumors of things her unit did when they came through
that reputation is heavy enough that i frightened the clerk at the thrakelorn post office just by bringing up her name
when she recovered she explained that the office is the single point of connection for all mail traveling west so my letter to hellebore did arrive here ... then stopped because in her words "nobody goes to patrahk'n"
since we're headed that way we've accepted the task of bringing the mail
there's hazard pay in it so why not?
most of the mail is for hellebore including a slightly leaky and extremely nasty-smelling box of something coming from "mossmantle" in the eldeen
everyone else wanted to discard it but i insisted that it should reach its destination – mail is serious business! – so i worked up a quick bag of holding and we've stuffed it in there so it won't stink up the rest of our journey
more troubling is where we're delivering it
...
i'm scared to meet her
