today's excitement started with cyre calling down from the crow's nest that he saw a shipwreck – a small boat with broken sails stranded on a sandbar
relic recognized their flags from rokugan – the land of his origin!
as we neared to help they started to wave us away which was only briefly confusing
before we could react our boat shook with the impact of a breaching spike and a bunch of armed and armored sahaugin started climbing the outside of the boat with grappling hooks
i don't know the full story and i don't feel that i need to but a couple of kelpblossom's plot points became very clear
the raiding party was led by her father who kept insisting she could come back home with him
meanwhile she called out a bounty on his head ... not necessarily attached
i don't know how he hurt her but his refusal to respect her boundaries was reason enough for us to fling him and his accomplices back out to sea
trying to raid our boat was icing on the cake
i did most of the flinging
i tangled one up with his own chain net
gemini star has been encouraging me to be more assertive when the fighting starts and i saw an opportunity to deal with them that wouldn't directly hurt them but would wear them out quickly
i didn't do so eagerly ... though i must admit that i felt some amount of satisfaction when they gave up
per gem's encouragement: "do no harm but take no shit"
anyhow we did eventually discourage the bad dad and his team
ploughshare and a couple of the crew brought kelpblossom below decks for a stiff drink
featherstep nervously preened in their bunk the whole time and i don't blame them – it really is frightening when the fighting starts and they're not made for that sort of excitement
i didn't think i was and i still don't but here i am
according to them the worst they've had to deal with before now was a gryphon wake
according to medya that's a good way to prepare for loud noises at least
at that point we were able to attend to the shipwrecked folks who spoke rokugani while relic translated
a wild storm broke their boat "echo of jade" and stranded them on a sandbar
that raiding group kept them alive as bait for would-be rescuers in order to sink and plunder those ships which makes me want to throw those jerks off the boat again just to make a point
anyhow relic is catching up on 400 years of his homeland's history
not a bad way to pass the time!
