ir'wynarn wrugar is now king of breland and that scares aejar
wrugar declared aejar "prince of sharn" and that also scares him
he feels there's no time to grieve for his father because the city's administration needs urgent attention
today 7 districts held proper elections so aejar's empowering those councilmembers to keep sharn glued together while he works to fix the rest
that's a big job because the other 10 districts are a mess of bribery and extortion and such
then again the proper elections in the cogs faced no small amount of interference
we were up before dawn to open the polling station on time ... which involved chasing off the college of balance soldiers who'd been ordered to keep it shut!
once opened the voting went smoothly
until a much larger group of soldiers tried to scare the crowd away
it seems nobody explained to them that the crowd were mostly war veterans capable of working together to rebuff such nonsense
i was inside helping folks with their ballots and a modified "silence" spell kept the noise down
but the soldiers switched tactics from "shout a lot" to "launch a giant boulder directly at the station" which put several lives in danger – including mine! – so i had to step outside briefly to reflect it back at the equipment they used to launch it
even after that they kept fighting
we had to shut down the lifts for over an hour to keep even more from swarming in
the trouble ended when aejar arrived with nine and a few of the king's shields
he inspected the polling station and declared it the most functional one he'd seen yet
then he directed the lifts to resume and when the doors opened to a bunch of soldiers he ordered them to stop
right then and there he officially disbanded the college of balance and made them lay down their weapons and go away!
he wants the city to heal and getting rid of those bullies is a great start
by nightfall everyone got to vote
i'm glad i helped!
also i learned something about the "khyber's gate" district
it's mostly populated by "gol" – the dakhaani word for goblins and bugbears and hobgoblins – and they call the place "kuuvet'taash"
i'm inclined to start referring to it that way also
most humans here don't really seem to respect the gol but i certainly will
we all deserve to speak for ourselves and they've gone unheard for too long
