February 25 Progress
Hello fellow interwebbers.
So, I was looking through my notepad the other day at all the work I had done for Violem last year. I keep a record of when I have created and published a new article for myself really and I intend to keep that trend up. But as I was looking, I realised that many of the articles just get lost or forgotten about by myself or you guys, the readers.
I'm sure other people do this already but I came to the conclusion of creating a little montly blog post to showcase my progress in the world. Point you guys to the articles I am writing, the ones I maybe updating. And if I remember (cause I'm really bad at remembering, sorry) I'll add some of the articles I have been reading which I thought were pretty cool.
I'll add a list of the articles down below, I hope you find something interesting :)
New Articles:
Now these notes come from a solo campaign I played about a year ago with an older version of the TG20 - Homebrew Rules. I tend to play these gams to expand regions or add lore in a different way than just, trying to write an article in one sitting. They are a little rough but I did have fun playing it, I do have plans to return to this campaign when I get a little more consistent free time.
What sparked this article was entering a community challenge by H.B. Bacon. Now I tend to enjoy the contests and challenges as they are a fun way to motivate myself, so I gave it a go and this is the first thing that popped into my head.
Following on from the last article. I knew I had ideas about different coins in my world for a while and I got inspired to keep on the coin theme, so I searched through my articles and found a reference to hex gold. This is what came out of that little adventure.
This is another idea I had for the Love themed challenge, but I am not great with romantic ideas so I thought I could twist the theme. For some reason I also had the Valentine Day massacre rattling in my brain so I guess that also inspired this, just a lot less lethal.
Updated Articles:
In my New Year's Resolutions, I planned to update as many old articles as I could. Well, some of my earliest are the 12 cities of Cytal. And I have been slowly trying to update them. But I always find it difficult as cities are quite large and I feel like I haven't fleshed them out enough. But this is what I have for the city of Fi-Ha so far.The update process for this was more of a redesign of the article to make it look more presentable and change the stat block based on playtesting I have done in the past.
Again, another article that needed a fresh coat of paint. Although I did add a few lines of text to tie it in with newer parts of the world such as the Shrouded Valley.
What I found fun about updating this one, was all the ideas I had for magnetic and celestial based weapons, tools and armour that could be created using this material. Very powerful but considering its rarity I think it balances out quite nicely.
The Gruff ended up being one of those articles where I rewrite a large portion of it. I believe I had written it about 8 months ago and I could just tell my writing has improved since then. Which is a nice indicator of my personal progress. With a nice new layout and a new image to go with it, I think it has turned out rather nicely.
Next is the co-existing creature to the Gruff. Not originally on my list of articles to update but I saw it needed an updated layout and a slight altering to its stats.
So, updating this one excites me. I realised this is a very important part of history within the world and it just wasn't fleshed out enough (it probably still isn't honestly). A lot things tie to this organisation as the primary focus on the group is the exploration of other realms. A have a lot to say about the Realm Rangers, with many more things coming relating to them. So it felt fitting to update this article. I intend to keep updating this one during the March of 31 Tales Challenge.
The Sauratar is a perfect example of an article where I had an idea that I wanted to get down, but then I couldn't find the right words to explain it or flesh it out properly. And it's been sat in a state for months. I did some things to update it but I think I could do better. Suggestions would be really helpful for this one.
