Sauratar

Sauratar, lightning loving giants in the skies. Born with a primal connection to the element of lightning, these 20ft long creatures fly high up in the clouds. Watching over the lands of Violem. Most associated with Lightning Alum as companions during the ages of Acuran and Exploration.

In the Wild:

If a storm approaches then the Sauratar are not far behind. Often seen as dark shadows sprinkled in the clouds of a thunderstorm and highlighted with flashes of lightning. For most, they do not cause any issue as they stay high in the sky. But on occasion these sky eel can get lost from the groups they fly alone, often creating a cyclone out of distress and to signal to the rest of the group they are lost. Once their time is up, these giant beasts fall to the earth, leaving behind a carcass covered in the fatty meat of the creature.   Overtime, the remains of the Sauratar have been put to good use. Necromancers discovered the flesh is capable of deflecting or absorbing lightning based magic and have fashioned various cloaks, armour pieces and shields similar to the way one works with leather. The bone of Sauratar is also a well sought after resource, not only is it a strong, durable and rare material. But it also has the ability to conduct lightning and redirect it. For this reason, it is highly valuable for blacksmiths and warriors in high regions such as Drovvin and Norpelda.

Riders of the Storm:

"On a dark stormy night, you can hear them cries. Searching for their long lost masters in the skies, bringing a storm along for the ride."
— Ezyilla Ancaph, Founder of The Ivory Champions
In the not too distant past, Sauratar were a common sight, alongside the Lightning Alum, a race of elementals capable of wielding lightning magic. With the two species both having a connection to the electric forces of nature, a natural connection formed. With the Sauratar becoming pets and mount for the Alum, allowing less powerful lilghtning wielders to fly across the lands with ease. But after the numbers of these Alum dwindled, so did the Sauratar. They now roam the skies, searching for their missing masters, in the hopes of joining them wherever they may be.
