Faraday City Overview
This overview gives some background on Faraday City, as well as the events that have shaped it into the "city of superheroes" it is today!See: Faraday City Overview
Buildings and Landmarks
Picturesque and impressive, Faraday City has a number of monuments and prominent or distinctive buildings.
The gleaming silver-white monument was nearly as tall as the surrounding skyscrapers and from afar resembled a slender needle that from the ground seemed to be stretching skyward towards some distant new frontier. I'd never seen it from this angle before, and it surprised me how different it looked from up here.

Astral Bridge |
A high metal structure that was named for after the hero Astral, who died while protecting people during the Manichean Invasion many years before. This was also the location of some heart-to-heart talks between PG and Trixie. |
The "Prodigal Tree" |
Not an official landmark, this is the elm tree that Chris ran into during his fateful day in the park when he got his powers. As Caleb pointed out, if this tree hadn't been there for Chris to run into, there might not be a Prodigious Girl. At some point, Caleb seems to have put a small metal plate on the side of the elm, identifying it as the "Prodigal Tree." |
The Spire |
The most prominent landmark built right in the heart of the city, The Spire is a unique Faraday City spectacle in a city known for its spectacles. See: The Spire |
Superbases and Hideouts
Metahumans--especially groups of metahumans--seldom seem to settle for cozy apartment or a house in the suburbs for their get-togethers.
"Prodigy's place is in a dirty old rundown garage on the south side near a fish cannery. You wouldn't believe the smell."

Chase's Place |
Located in a run-down part of the city, Chase's place was a combination of an apartment and an office that he used for his Private Investigator's work. The building itself was aging and falling apart, pre-dating the establishment of Faraday City. There was apparently a push by developers to buy out the building and redevelop it into something more modern, and it seemed that Chase was one of the last holdouts. Following Chase's apparent death (see: Charade), this space has now been abandoned, seemingly clearing the way for the redevelopment plans. Status: Abandoned |
Doctor Quasi's |
Not much is known about Doctor Quasi's current hideout, except that it prominently has a large dingy room, perhaps a converted storeroom of some kind in some industrial building. There are no windows, and the room is very sparsely furnished with only a metal table and a couple of chairs where he can conduct his "interviews." There is some equipment for restraining his "patients," including some raised hospital gurneys. And then, there are the mirrors. Not content to merely transform his victims in horrifying ways, Quasi also keeps some wheeled mirrors around so that he can reveal their changed reflections to their terrifyed eyes. Its location is currently undisclosed, but the only clues his victims (including Curador and Elasticity) have been able to offer were a pungent chemical odor in the room, like a cleaning solvent, and muffled sounds of nearby machinery. But wherever the hideout is located, it can be sure to provide one thing Doctor Quasi values most in his work: privacy to torment his victims. See also:

Fortress Prometheus |
Promethean's secret base, located on the hidden Promethean Isle . See: Fortress Prometheus See also:
Glitterati's Hideout |
A significantly upsized warp closet (about the size of a ranch house), Glitterati's hideout held a number of high-tech and likely alien devices, including extra suits of her bio-armor. It was destroyed when a pair of thieves broke in and became trapped in her bio-armor. Status: Destroyed See also:

The Habitat |
The home and base of operations for the The League of Chinchillas, located in Aisle 3 of the Petco they have sworn to protect. It isn't much to look at, merely a sizeable cage for them to run around in, with habitrails, an exercise wheel, and some hay scattered about. The chinchillas also have a electronic communication system that they use to keep in touch with their agents in the field. They also apparently have a shockingly sophisticated surveillance system of some sort, since they were able to track the whereabouts of Prodigious Girl from across the city without her knowledge. |
The Liberty Squadron's |
Located downtown, this sprawling high-tech complex is the base of operations for The Liberty Squadron, the premier superhero team in the city. See: The Liberty Squadron's base See also:
Manichean Dimension |
The otherworldly domain that has been enslaved by the brilliant but sadistic archvillain Doctor Malevolence. See also:

Petco, Faraday City |
Home to both the legendary The League of Chinchillas and the astonishing The AquaFish, this ordinary-seeming pet store is actually a battleground between good and evil! See: Petco See also:
Prodigy's Garage(s) |
Prodigy's secret hide out, maintained in a crappy converted garage in a sketchy part of the city. See: Prodigy's Garage(s) See also:
Revenants' Catacombs |
This seemingly massive underground complex beneath Faraday City is the base of operations for the Revenants gang. Hewn out of the rock and lit by torches, these twisting and mazelike corridors seem to be from another time and place entirely. It's unknown whether this space pre-dates the existence of the modern city above, or if it was created more recently and made to look more ancient. Though if this complex does pre-date the founding of the city, the location of these catacombs does seem to be more than just a coincidence. See also:
The Sanctuary |
The secret base of Demetria's eponymous organization, The Sanctuary was a huge facility built in warp space, and served as a training ground and save haven for the young superheroines in Demetria's charge. The Sanctuary was destroyed during the events of Identity Crisis. What if anything became of the superheroines who lived there is unknown. Status: Destroyed See: The Sanctuary See also:
Starfall Headquarters |
Chris mentions having a copy of "the floorplans for the original Starfall Headquarters." Implying that if this was a hero base, it had been destroyed and rebuilt, and the original floorplans made public somehow.
Xenos's Warp |
Secreted away in warp space, but significantly bigger than the usual "warp locker," Xenos maintains this hidden location apparently as a convenient place to store the many useful items and artifacts he's collected over the centuries. |
Corporate Locations
The various high-tech companies present in Faraday City tend to have some pretty impressive facilities.
"Great view of the city, and it still geeks me out to see the heroes flying by. Sometimes I get a view when a fight breaks out, too. You remember that rumpus with Golgotha and the Gamma Kaiju? Best seat in the city, right here."
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
AGON Technologies |
The corporate headquarters building for AGON Technologies is located right downtown. The owner, Marty Maddox, can frequently be seen having lunch on the roof of the building, watching the supers fly by, and offering words of wisdom to young heroes. See: AGON Technologies |
Restaurants, Bars, and Clubs
While fine dining isn't necessarily the first thing that leaps to mind when one thinks of Faraday City, there are still some fun eateries and hangouts for those in the know.
I'd just bought a box of stupidly expensive donuts at an artisanal donut shop to share with my co-workers. Apparently we interns were responsible for bringing in donuts on Fridays, and I'd missed my last two turns, so I thought I'd buy my way back into everybody's good graces with some overpriced confectionary treats.

---|---|---|
Club Nocturne |
A highly exclusive cabaret and nightclub, Club Nocturne is primarily knownfor its throwback to 1940s style, to the point of even allowing smoking inside, unlike many Faraday City bars and clubs. Its patrons dress in period clothes, and adhere to the club's idiosyncratic rules, including not allowing cell phones inside the club. One of Club Nocturne's more unusual characteristics is its highly-coveted VIP line. VIP members--evidently all women-- all wear a small moon-themed piece of jewelry given out by the club, which has their name inscribed on the back, and can can be worn in various ways such as a pin or broach. The bouncers have a remarkable ability to swiftly spot even high- quality fakes, suggesting that the pins may have some special feature to them, perhaps technolgical or magical, that identifies them as the real deal. Known VIP Members: Victoria Dunne, Amelia Bettencourt |
HeroBurger |
This restaurant is famous for having a wide menu where many of the items are named after famous superheroes. It's also considered a bit of tourist trap. See: HeroBurger |
Powdered Ring
Purveyor of what Chris characterized as "stupidly overpriced confectionary treats," which he's purchased in the past to buy his way into his co-workers good graces. |
Unmasked
A high-end strip club located in a sketchy part of town, Unmasked is primarily known for having dancers and waitresses who dress like real life heroines and villainesses. (Not all of whom are flattered by the homage.) Unmasked is run by Desmond Marcks, an ambitious man with ties to the Marchetti Crime Family. However, that connection has proved to be part of the attraction of Unmasked, as celebrities enjoy rubbing elbows with the gangsters, and vice versa. A darker element of the club is that Marcks appears to be running a prostitution ring, allowing Faraday's well-to-do have sex with women who look like their favorite heroines. But Marcks's real interest is in collecting information on his clients, even enlisting the women in his schemes to collect dirt that he can use against the men.

Public Works
Faraday City (and beyond) has many government and public facilities and spaces.
"If you think about it, if that tree hadn't been there, you would have kept running, and there probably wouldn't even be a Prodigious Girl."— Caleb

Faraday Costume
Colorful costumes are one of the first things you think of when you think of supeheroes, and this is where they're made! Yet another wonder provided by Faraday Labs, the CosFab is where heroes can go to design and make their costumes, quickly and easily. Making a costume is as simple as creating the desired look on a virtual model on the computer, after which the hero is provided with a CosFit device that will loose a swarm of nanites that dresses them in their hero costume. Made out of a durable nanofabric, these tough, custom-made costumes are an essential part of being a hero! |

Faraday City
See: Faraday City Midtown High School | |
Faraday City
Curently under construction for redevelopment, this location is where Xenos abushed Prodigious Girl. |
Lone Tree
Elementary school that's atteded by both Lydia Patterson and Evie Blake. |
Lucent Avenue |
An avenue located in a downtown mixed-use residential area, this was presumably named posthumously for a hero named Lucent. Tia Barron, a bartender at Unmasked, lives here. |
The Pen |
The Pen (presumably a nickname) is an ultra-high security penitentary designed to incarcerate metahumans. Prodigy mentioned that a heroine named Miss Justice is imprisoned there, perhaps unjustly. |
Superhero
A critical step for any new hero wanting to be official in the eyes of the law! (Also, comes with some cool perks!) See: Superhero Registration |
Supervillain |
A counterpart to the more official hero version, this system is purely voluntary, but was generally considered a good idea by most villains when they tried to assume the name of a significantly more powerful villain, and it ended badly for them. (The poster child for this being Dr. Malevolence (PhD, Fine Arts) trying to pass himself off as Doctor Malevolence, the world-conquering archvillain. See also: |
(Unnamed City Park) |
This is the city park where Chris got his powers under mysterious circumstances. (And thus contains the "Prodigal Tree," as Caleb seems to have dubbed it.) It's a public park apparently not too far from Chris's home, and perhaps walking distance from his school. |
Other Locations
Other meaningful locations and landmarks in Faraday City.
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Carrington Suites
An extremely fancy hotel in the heart of Faraday City, apparently catering to the extremely wealthy. |
Desolate Labyrinth
A magical location that Trixie believed to be mythical, equating it to Santa's Workshop at the North Pole. The supposed map to this place was in the tome The Covenants of Loss, sought by Vagabond. |
Nightmare Dimension |
Vagabond referred to Enchantrix as "Princess of the Nightmare Dimension," among other titles. (Suggesting that Rhiannon Blackwood would therfore be its queen.) Trixie didn't seem to dispute this, although she did comment that nobody actually refers to it that way, suggesting it has a more formal name. This is possibly another term for the Terror Dimension. |
Lone Tree
Apartment building downtown. Home to Eden and Evie Blake. |
Terror Dimension |
Mentioned by Prodigious Girl as an event where large portions of the city slid into the Terror Dimension as the veil between worlds thinned. This is possibly another term for the Nightmare Dimension. |
