The Patterson Family
Chris Patterson (Prodigious Girl)'s known family members.
"Hey, I'm still a minor, you know! You're gonna have to pay for my therapy!""I don't think the concept of 'you break it, you bought it' applies to my teenage son's fragile gender identity."
— Chris and his mom
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Immediate Family |
||
Chris Patterson |
A pretty average 16-year-old kid, and self-described late bloomer. While his Prodigious Girl identity is secret (even to his parents), his new "identity" as Christie is all too public, much to Chris's chagrin... See: Prodigious Girl |
|
Heather Patterson(Mother) |
Chris's mom is doing her best trying to keep her only child safe in a city of superheroes and supervillains. She's had bad luck with supers, including one time when Chris was very young, and she thought he'd been killed in the crossfire of a fight between the supers. She also had an undisclosed traumatic experience with her sister, who died while they were still in their teens that caused her to be sensitive about the tension that comes from hiding your true self. With all of that going on, Chris isn't in a hurry to reveal that he's been secretly superheroing as Prodigious Girl. Especially when his mother's concern about secrets immediately led her to "encourage" Chris to embrace his seemingly trans nature as Christie. Occupation: Undisclosed, but has been working at home on research papers and grant proposals. |
|
Stephen Patterson(Father) |
Chris's dad Stephen also has passionate feelings about the various metahumans who populate Faraday City. As an Assistant District Attorney, several of his cases involve metahuman defendants, and over time, he's become dubious about the distinction between so-called "heroes" and "villains." He doesn't believe in vigilante justice, and he considers the registered hero system to be a "skimpy fig leaf" that allows supers to indiscriminately get into fights, and he feels they all need to be held accountable. Stephen is supportive of Chris being out as Christie, although he seems slightly lost on the topic, not quite sure how to deal with his only son sometimes being his only daughter...and if it might be a permanent change. Christie has actually been the source of some friction between Stephen and his brother and his wife, who have been less accepting of the change. But Stephen and Heather have been quick to stand up for their child. Occupation: Assistant District Attorney |
|
Undie(Pet) |
The family dog, a yellow Labrador/Chihuahua mix that's cute as a button and roughly half as smart as the neighborhood squirrels that bedevil him. Chris actually named him Underdog, but since he slacked off taking care of him in his formative years, he now only responds to Heather's nickname for him: Undie. |
|
Extended Family |
||
Barbara Olsen(Grandmother) |
Heather's mom is living her best life. She's living in Manhattan as a best-selling and award-winning author, writing spicy semi-fictional books about superheroes, including her latest book, Tattered Capes, Shattered Lives. She enjoys rubbing elbows with the supers, a fact that makes Heather and Stephen edgy. Even more so since Heather and Barbara apparently had some massive blow-up some years before that Chris was not privy to. But Heather has recently been making an effort to re-engage with her mother. The timing of that decision was problematic for Chris, because Barbara has been "disturbingly enthusiastic" and over-the-top supportive of Chris's decision to transition, even though Chris flatly maintains that his outings as Christie are only temporary. But his grandmother remains unconvinced. She's taken delight in introducing Christie as "my transgender granddaughter," leading some to suspect she might be virtue signaling or playing for the crowd. Occupation: Author |
|
Jack Patterson(Uncle) |
Jack is Stephen's brother, although the relationship between the two men had always been a bit uneven. Chris has observed that their politics were incompatible, and he's gotten the impression that Jack was jealous of Stephen's success. They're both big basketball fans, but root for rival (undisclosed) teams. This awkwardness hit a flashpoint when Chris started appearing as Christie, and neither Jack nor his wife were understanding or supportive, saying the behavior was abnormal, and Stephen and Heather were being overly permissive. Whether things will improve now they they have Chris to thank for babysitting Lydia is unknown. |
|
Jessica Patterson(Aunt) |
Jack's wife Jessica is a woman of strong opinions. She's very devoted to her family and protective of her children, but like her husband was not supportive of Chris's apparent decision to come out as Christie. She hasn't directly confronted Chris about her feelings on the matter, but her icy demeanor around him is plain. Reluctantly, Jessica and Jack prevailed on Chris to their daughter Lydia for a weekend. Thankfully, Jessica remains oblivious to all that happened, but even so, remained critical of his efforts. Whether Chris doing this favor for them will improve matters remains to be seen. |
|
Lydia Patterson(Cousin) |
Lydia is Jack and Jessica's precocious seven-year-old daughter, who has a knack for getting into trouble. See: Pretty Good Girl / Lydia Patterson |
|
Tommy Patterson(Cousin) |
Jack and Jessica's oldest son Tommy is apparently a little bit older than Chris, and in fact the two of them used to hang out quite a bit at family gatherings. Unfortunately, that relationship cooled when Chris came out as Christie. However, unlike his parents' disdain and disapproval, Tommy instead just seems to be awkward with the concept, so time will tell if he gets used to the idea. Tommy is quite good at karate, and took sixth place in the state finals. |
|
Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle(Pet) |
Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle is Lydia's pet chinchilla that she keeps in her bedroom. However, Lydia and the rest of the family are unaware that "she" is actually Nick Furry, a member of The League of Chinchillas. Significantly, Nick has witnessed Lydia using her new luck powers. See: Nick Furry |
|
(Unnamed Aunt)(Aunt) |
Heather at one point had a sister (would have been Chris's aunt) who died while they were still in their teens. The circumstances of this have not yet been disclosed, but it profoundly affected Heather, and had something to do with the stress of keeping secrets, and not living authentically. Status: Deceased |
|
AGON Technologies
The people who we know work for Marty Maddox's company, AGON Technologies, which provides technology and support to the heroes of the city.
"Apparently, some people think 'AGON' is an acronym. But it means conflict.""Actually, I read that it could also mean a philosophical debate between two contrasting views. Like order and chaos, old age and youth, even cynicism and idealism."
"Mmm. Or male and female?"
"I would suppose so."
"I'm sure. Well then, welcome to AGON, Miss Patterson."
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Marty Maddox |
The owner of AGON technologies, Marty is also one of its more gifted inventors when it comes to developing new and useful technology that can aid heroes and law enforcement. Although in recent years he's increasingly handed off those duties to "brighter young minds" who work for him. See: Prodigy |
|
Chris Patterson |
Chris (as Christie) is working an internship at AGON set up by Marty. As a "Level 1 Administrative Synergstic Coordinator" he's mostly doing secretarial duties, and reports to five bosses, including Marty. Marty has noted that having so many bosses makes it less conspicuous for a teenager to be meeting with the head of the company, and should help explain the odd unexplained absence as PG, since everyone will assume he's working with someone else. See: Prodigious Girl |
|
Grace |
Grace is a receptionist who doubles as Marty's assistant. She's pleasant and professional, and perhaps a bit of a hero groupie, commenting how nice it is of him to take time out of his day to provide words of wisdom to impressionable young superheroes. Oddly, both Grace and Chris are seen managing Marty's schedule. This may suggest that much like how he gave Chris multiple bosses to obfuscate his schedule if he needs to discreetly step out for hero work, Marty may be doing the same thing for himself by having multiple schedulers. |
Faraday City Midtown High School
Chris and Caleb's fellow students at high school.
"Am I the only guy in that place who's not secretly a superhero?"
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Roger Alvarez |
A "swell guy," but apparently quite nosy. |
|
Lauren Becker |
A girl Caleb likes who was in his Home Ec class. Makes the world's most ghastly brownies. |
|
Trace Buckley |
A good guy who stood up for Chris when he was getting bullied by Ash and Wade. Openly gay. |
|
Fiona Delaney |
A girl who Chris liked. It was after a "particularly disatrous attempt" to ask her out that he went to the park to clear his head, which is when he got his powers. |
|
Becky Fontaine |
One of the girls whom Caleb suspects that Chris may have used when constructing Prodigious Girl's look. |
|
Bonita Harper |
A particularly well-endowed female classmate. |
|
Wade McGrath |
A school bully who takes his direction from Ash Raleigh. See: Triggerhappy |
|
Derek Morrow |
A recent transfer to the high school. Status: Deceased See: Blamestorm |
|
Erica Murillo |
A girl in the Drama class with whom Chris shared a Math class. He mentioned her as part of the panicked alibi he fabricated to explain the blonde wig his mom discovered in his room. |
|
Leah Paredes |
A friend of Chris and at one time part of a study group with him, Leah has expressed an interest with Chris in both guy and girl modes. She's stood up to her friends and classmates on Chris's behalf, and even stood up to Ash when he was bullying Chris. She's noted that her parents don't want her hanging around with Chris, but thinks they're "idiots," and has been pursuing Chris anyway. Leah has an easy smile with a slightly sideways discerning look to her, like she's constantly sizing people up. Hair: Short brown in a loose shaggy style Eyes: Brown Skin: Pale olive Aliases :UnbLeahvable (her messaging handle) |
|
Chris Patterson |
Chris (sometimes Christie) Patterson, having trouble managing his identities. See: Prodigious Girl |
|
Ash Raleigh |
School bully who's looking to make a name for himself. See: Quasarblaze |
|
Marta Randini |
A female classmate who got accosted by hero-worshipping teens who thought she was wearing long sleeves and long pants on a particularly hot day to hide a superhero costume. It turned out to be an embarrassing skin rash. |
|
Caleb Shapiro |
Chris's best friend. See: Caleb Shapiro |
|
Lori Shapiro |
Caleb's sister, implied to be his older sister. The two of them get along, and while she doesn't respect his boundaries, she's been known to cover for him with their parents, and expects the same from him. She appears to share Caleb's discerning ability to read people, and considers herself to be a gifted liar. Lori seems to have misgivings about Caleb's relationship with Chris. When Chris was just a geeky guy she just rolled her eyes at it, but now that Chris is out as Christie, Lori suspects that they might be boyfriend and girlfriend, and has berated her brother for hanging out so much with "that trans girl." Caleb has denied this, but Lori is obviously unconvinced. |
Faraday City Police Department
Faraday's Finest!
"Vigilantes who work outside the system are as much a danger to the people of this city as any of those so-called supervillains."
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Alex Keyes |
A police detective who moonlights as a bouncer at Unmasked. He was apparently being blackmailed by Desmond Marcks who ran the club for undisclosed reasons, although it was serious enough that Keyes would occasionally do his dirty work, to include breaking and entering. Keyes apparently had a relationship with Jessie Harber, one of the dancers at the club, although it's unclear as to whether she reciprocated the feelings, or was just using Keyes. Keyes was killed in a shootout involving Chase, Xenos, and Victoria Dunne. Status: Deceased |
|
"Mikey" |
A police officer who moonlights as a bouncer at Unmasked. |
|
Detective |
A detective who's had prior dealings with Doctor Quasi. |
Unmasked Gentlemen's Club
Employees and known associates for Unmasked, a strip club with known ties to the Marchetti Crime Family.
"As strip clubs went, Unmasked was fairly upscale, its high quality interior a stark contrast to the gritty streets outside. Their gimmick was that the dancers and waitresses were all dressed up like supers, both heroines and villainesses."— Chase
Name | Notes | Appearances |
---|---|---|
Owner |
||
Desmond Marcks |
Marcks is the owner of Unmasked, and is ambitious, intelligent, and observant. His club is popular among the rich and famous of Faraday City, as well as many among the seedier criminal element. Marcks runs a prostitution ring out of the club, allowing the wealthy to sleep with his dancers to give the men the experience of sleeping with women who look like famous heroines. But Marcks' real interest is in information that he collects on these men, usually to blackmail them. Marcks's operation appears to be affiliated with the Marchetti Crime Family, although it's unclear to what degree. |
|
Employees and Associates |
||
Emmet |
A young blond guy in his early 20s who's moonlighting as a delivery guy while going to school somewhere. |
|
Alex Keyes |
A police detective who moonlights as a bouncer. See: Alex Keyes |
|
"Mikey" |
A police officer who moonlights as a bouncer. |
|
Tia Barron |
A middle-aged woman who tends bar at the club, Tia has a quick, ascerbic wit. She seemed to enjoy sparring verbally with Chase. Tia is friends with Jessie Harber (and seems rather protective of her for some undisclosed reason), and Jessie has apparently been to Tia's apartment on at least one occasion. |
|
Dancers and Waitresses |
||
Ashlyn / |
A stripper at the club who dresses as Punchline. |
|
"Copykitten" |
A stripper at the club who dresses as Copykitten. |
|
"Ephemeral" |
A stripper at the club who dresses (or dressed) as Ephemeral. |
|
"Glitterati" |
A waitress at the club who dresses as Glitterati. |
|
Jessie Harber / |
A dancer in her early 20s, Jessie is a a relative newcomer to Unmasked, where she takes the stage dressed as the villainess known as Dollface. She previously worked the streets of Faraday City as a prostitute before she was rescued by Chase, with whom she shared an on-again, off-again romantic relationship of sorts. Jessie isn't the smartest of girls, but she knows how to take care of herself, and she's more clever than she lets on. She also has a knack for knowing how to manipulate the men in her life, including both Chase and Alex Keyes, two men who pride themselves on their powers of observation. She seems to be loyal to Desmond Marcks, although whether this is genuine or just another ploy on her part remains to be seen. Jessie is also a Trifling, an ascended metahuman with trivial amounts of power. She appears to have extremely low-grade powers of telekinesis, able to move very small objects with significant effort. She's worked the use of her powers into her strip club act at Unmasked. Although she has little memory of it, Jessie's body was possessed by Chase's spirit during the events surrounding Charade. Chase used her spirit to crush the body swapper known as Xenos, a ploy which seems to have worked since there is currently no sign of him. However, whether Xenos was killed or merely resides as a powerless spirit doomed to look out at the world as a prisoner inside of Jessie is currently unknown.
Show spoiler
Speaking as the author, I consider Xenos dead. However an interesting wrinkle
is that Chase in Jessie's body seemingly had unprotected sex with a young man. It's unclear what birth control Jessie uses, but it raises the possibilty that Jessie might be pregnant. If Xenos is merely trapped and not dead, possessing the mind of the baby might provide him with a possible means of escape. Hair: Light brown (dyed blonde) Eyes: Green |
|
"Plutonium Blonde" |
A stripper at the club who dresses as Plutonium Blonde. |
|
Other Civilians
Other civilian characters running around Faraday City.
Many people ask why anyone in their right mind would live in Faraday City these days considering that it's the epicenter for any number of bizarre paranormal events, alien invasions, and giant rampaging supermonsters, to say nothing of being in Jersey. Well, there's a couple reasons for that.First, we are per capita far and away the world's number one home for superheroes, a fact that we here are quite proud of.
Second, we live in a breathtaking amount of denial.

Carson Beaumont |
Over 20 years ago, Beaumont was the vigilante known as Chimera, and the scourge of the Marchetti crime family. Unfortunately for him, he came to the attention of the body-swapping villain Xenos, who saw in Beaumont a life he could comfortably take over. Caught unawares, Xenos swapped Beaumont into a prostitute's body...and worse, then delivered him into the hands of Ferdinand Marchetti, his greatest enemy! What happened next is unclear, but what is known that Xenos took over Beaumont's identity for the next two decades. Meanwhile, it seems the Beaumont became slutty arm candy for Marchetti, as well as his sexual plaything of Marchetti, and being given the name "Chi Chi" as a reminder of his former identity. Worse, he was made to undergo a number of plastic surgeries that piece by piece had grossly hypersexualized his feminine appearance. By the end, she was so outrageously curvaceous and pornographically suggestive that it looked like his surgeons had been trying to turn him into more of an inflatable pool toy more than a person. It remains unknown why Beaumont didn't to more to resist these humiliations and indignities, if Marchetti had something on him, or was threatening someone he cared about. It is also unknown what happened to Beaumont. The best guess is that he was killed in a shootout with a rival gang eight years ago, but this is unconfirmed. Status: Presumed Dead Aliases: Chimera, "Chi Chi" See: Chimera, Xenos, Ferdinand Marchetti |
|
Amelia Bettencourt |
Counting themselves among Faraday City's rich and famous, Amelia and her companion Trey were VIP members of Club Nocturne. |
|
Eden and Evie Blake |
Young Evie is a friend and classmate of Lydia , and Chris met both her and her mother Eden while doing some light babysitting duty for the girls while their parents talked. Lives at: Lone Tree Apartments Evie's School: Lone Tree Elementary School
Show spoiler
These are blink-and-you-miss-it cameos, and technically only Evie is
ever named (and only her first name), but it was meant to be a sly nod to Mantra and her daughter from the Ultraverse comics. It's unclear if this version of Eden is also a superhero (or if this version also has a son, Gus), but since I'm planning a Mantra/PG crossover story, this could be useful information for PG when she meets Mantra! |
|
Augustus Capshaw |
A wealthy middle-aged man who was married to Madeline Capshaw, his scheming young wife who enlisted the aid of Chase to murder her husband. The item that would ultimately become Chase's gold Zippo lighter was the murder weapon, and it was the perfect murder, ultimately being ruled death by natural causes. Status: Deceased Known Relatives: Madeline Capshaw (wife, deceased) |
|
Madeline Capshaw |
Madeline Clarice Capshaw was a scheming and deadly young woman who was married to Augustus Capshaw and hatched a scheme to kill her husband for the money. Enlisting Chase as a patsy who could do her dirty work, Madeline weaved a bunch of lies about how her husband beat her and how she loved Chase and longed to be with him. Chase foolishly fell for Madeline's act, and used her lighter as the murder weapon (Chase's gold Zippo lighter). The murder went off perfectly, and Madeline swiftly dumped Chase, no longer having any use for him. Years later, Chase contacted Madeline with a phony story about wanting to sell her the lighter (the murder weapon) to entice her to come to his office. Unfortunately for her, this was a ruse, and the dying Chase used his new body swapping abilities to swap with Madeline, leaving her to perish in his body. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, Chase died that day and Madeline lives on, unaware that Chase--Charade--is now the one living in her body. Status: Deceased Known Relatives: Augustus Capshaw (husband, deceased) |
|
Shepherd Cochran |
A member of Faraday City's rich and famous, and characterized by Chase as a "self-made man in investment banking." Xenos hypothesized that Cochran and Parker Wise were in fact secretly brothers, perhaps even fraternal twins, and that they traded off being the superhero Arcturus. |
|
Cleveland Dunne |
A wealthy octogenarian, Cleveland Dunne made his fortune in oil. He also had dealings with the ancient body-swapper Xenos, and performed several services for him over the years. One particular "assignment" he apparently undertook with great enthusiasm was to marry his beautiful young wife Victoria, done at Xenos's behest. Dunne was aware that Victoria used to be a middle-aged man who'd run afoul of Xenos, and apparently delighted in keeping her under his thumb and making her perfect her feminine performance...and wifely duties. Somewhat ironically, having such a vibrant young wife seems to have led to his demise. Status: Deceased Known Relatives: Victoria Dunne (wife, deceased) |
|
Victoria Dunne |
Formerly a private investigator named Vic Deluca, Victoria's fortunes changed when she encountered the ancient body swapper, Xenos. Sick and dying, she volunteered to help Xenos, but he betrayed her and trapped her in her daughter's body. Over the next ten years, Xenos made a "project" out of her, first marrying her off to an aging and controlling oil tycoon named Cleveland Dunne. After Mr. Dunne's death, Victoria realized that Xenos would soon come to kill her since she was no longer a "kept woman." She came to Faraday City to try and kill Xenos first, and became entangled with Chase's situation. Unfortunately, for Victoria, Xenos got to her first. Status: Deceased Aliases: Vic Deluca Known Relatives: Cleveland Dunne (husband, deceased) |
|
Dr. Reginald Faraday |
The man himself, Dr. Faraday founded Faraday City, but things really took off when he accidentally triggered the event known as The Turning Point from his lab downtown, thus ushering in the era of metahumans and superheroes. Quick to take advantage, Faraday Labs these days offers numerous products and services to aid the superhero community. But what Dr. Faraday himself is up to these days has not yet been disclosed. |
|
Ethan Foster |
The head of the Fraud Investigations Unit at Faraday Insurance, Foster is the epitome of the corporate douchebag. Ambitious but unwilling to accept responsibility for anything, he is transparently insincere and self-serving. In his capacity as a freelance investigator, Chase investigated a number of cases for Faraday Insurance, reporting to Foster before he was ultimately fired. |
|
Meggan McKay |
Meggan is a field reporter for HeroVerse News. She's quick to arrive to a trouble spot, and most heroes are equally quick to enjoy a little time basking in the limelight. Meggan fancies herself a serious news journalist, but many of her questions frequently seem to skew more towards a celebrity puff piece interview, especially when interviewing superheroines. See: HeroVerse News |
|
Ferdinand Marchetti |
The head of the Marchetti crime family. The mobsters were in a losing battle against the vigilante Chimera and seemed to be headed for prison--or something more permanent--when Marchetti was approached by the body-swapping villain, Xenos, who had designs on taking over Chimera's body on a long-term basis. In exchange for a truce, Xenos delivered the real Chimera as the woman who became known as "Chi Chi." Desmond Marcks at one point referred to "the young Mister Marchetti," suggesting that Ferdinand has a son or other younger male relative who is involved in the family business. See: Carson Beaumont ("Chi Chi"), Xenos, Chimera |
|
Mr. Marchetti |
Desmond Marcks at one point referred to "the young Mister Marchetti," suggesting that Ferdinand has a son or other younger male relative who is also involved in the family business. |
|
Red Jacket and |
Red Jacket and High-Tops (not their acutal names) are a pair of thugs who hassle innocent citizens who venture into the sketchier areas downtown. They were first seen hassling Chris and Lydia in an area near Prodigy's Garage, and were later seen hassling Chase and Xenos (as Victoria) in an area near the Unmasked Gentlemen's Club. Chase noted that the two knew how to handle themselves, and were likely gang members. Although which gang they are a part of (if any) is unclear. |
|
Mr. and Mrs. Shapiro |
Caleb and Lori's parents. | |
Parker Wise |
A member of Faraday City's rich and famous, and characterized by Chase as a "trust fund baby." Xenos hypothesized that Wise and Shepherd Cochran were in fact secretly brothers, perhaps even fraternal twins, and that they traded off being the superhero Arcturus. |
|
