Originally a teen villain with the name Killbane, Derek frequently teamed up with his metahuman father, Dominic (Killdozer), to commit crimes. During a tech heist, the father and son fought and were thwarted by The Faraday Irregulars, who managed to subdue the pair. However, before they could be handed over to the police, Harridan intervened.

She took the two to Demetria, who performed her mental reconditioning on the two villains, which wiped their memories of recent events and turned them into heroes. Rechristening Dominic and Derek as Viridian and Blamestorm, that might have been the end of the matter, except that unfortunately, Viridian was among the small percentage of people who had an adverse reaction to Demetria's reconditioning, and suffered a violent psychotic break. To Derek's horror, his father went on a rampage and killed his mother. Prodigious Girl tried to intervene, but she was unable to subdue Viridian before he suddenly and savagely killed Derek, as well. Indeed, Prodigious Girl might have been killed herself if not for the intervention of Harridan, who killed Viridian.

Powers and Abilities

• Agony Flames - Blamestorm is able to produce blasts or wide curtains of fire, which are unusual in that they also directly trigger the target's pain receptors. Even for an otherwise invulnerable target who might not take damage from the flames, the attack is singularly excruciating, and can be quite incapacitating.
• Fire Shield - In addition to projecting his fire as an attack, he can also envelop his entire body in his flames, protecting himself from incoming attacks, and badly injuring anyone with whom he comes in contact.
• Physical Resilience (unconfirmed) - Although this isn't certain, Blamestorm appeared to have mildly enhanced strength and resistance to injury, perhaps a side effect of his body being able to generate the agony flames.

While out in his secret identity as "Christie," Chris had a chance to talk with Derek. He was very complimentary of Chris, and supportive of Chris being out as trans. He was generally very nice and thoughtful. Even Caleb commented that he seemed liked a nice guy. So whatever Demetria's mental reconditioning did, the effects were pretty dramatic.
