GHG Session 52: Filet-o-Sahuagin

General Summary

Month 3, Week 3, Year 919
With a letter of recommendation in hand, Ysmyrelda and Loopmottin traveled down south to the Free State of Thorvald for a meeting with the legendary Duke Mithril. It was sweltering hot within the mountain stronghold of Grettir, but Loopmottin managed to safely teleport them into town and Ys had a laid-back chat with the Duke about crafting a magical violin for her. Duke Mithril had the supplies, all he'd need from Ys is the soul of some monster to store in the instrument to grant it that special magic spark. It's what the Duke had done to enchant his silver trumpet after defeating the behir centuries ago, and Ys would have to find a worthy opponent of her own to contain within the instrument. She also had time to find a seller of Zan'kiri's hand-crafted weapons, learning about the city's interesting policy towards bloodshed and waste disposal.   Meanwhile Zan'kiri and Xa'kara headed over to Sarditown in Sanjuro City to meet with a member of the Avventuri. Did I say Zan'kiri and Xa'kara? I meant Zan'kiri disguised as Xa'kara while Windred rested in bat-form atop an illusory image of Zan'kiri. The Avventuri agent they spoke to was part of the group's Reserva forces, the part of the team that operates from the shadows while others like Alessandra Capaldi get all the adulation and attention. The agent explained how Paoli Piedmonte was interested in a Magic Jar, the kind of magic only necromancers could reliably perform. Zan'kiri explained he'd need time to gather his strength for such a spell, but the agent provided a generous incentive to stay committed to the deal: 10,000GP, with an extra 40,000GP guaranteed once the deal was complete. Windred had mixed feelings about a tyrant like Paoli being granted virtual immortality, but it was hard to argue with that kind of money.   Month 3, Week 4, Year 919
With their business completed in Sanjuro City, the party started sailing south towards the siege of Nekutalin. They traveled down the Maguro River with Prof. Klute and his band of graduate students, parting ways at the ruins of Younashi while Klute and his students continued towards Shisu to start excavating the Old Myltevian ruins there. Trekking through the Kiri Remnant involved dealing with numerous bandits and outlaws, but many of these would-be thieves were quickly neutralized by Zan'kiri's undead entourage.   They finally arrived at Shogun Tolball's warcamp on the outskirts of Nekutalin, the grizzled tortle warlord preparing for a final assault against the Dynamite Roll-held city. The Fortunate Five would help break through the city's defenses, especially since Zan'kiri had crafted an adamantium mace that could turn even the sturdiest fortifications into dust and rubble. Getting situated in camp, the party was introduced to the sahuagin nobleman William Fintuna and the armies of sahuagin currently fighting on Tolball's behalf. Despite the sahuagin's bad reputation as bloodthirsty acolytes of the Sunken God, Tolball had granted them a chance to redeem themselves by helping him establish dominance over the Kiri Remnant. But the consequences would be brutal for any sahuagin who succumbed to their blood frenzy impulses: a sahuagin caught biting the hand of a human soldier was skinned alive, hanged, drawn and quartered by Tolball himself as a warning against any future bouts of bloodlust. The party, enamored by William Fintuna's polite demeanor, learned about his attendence at four different universities and how he dreamed of one day claiming the throne of the sahuagin kingdom beneath the Karaga Sea.
