Uthilith Great Sea

"A single ocean encompasses the waters of the world... her vast embrace waits to swallow us all. She will one day swallow everyone and everything, and the world will be reclaimed by her celestic spirit."   -Squall Uhrheart
The Uthilith Great Sea - occasionally referred to as the One Ocean - is the singular body of water upon which the world rests. It encompasses well over half of the flat plane and possesses the world's greatest biodiversity.   The Great Sea consists of seven smaller seas. The following is a summary of these seas, from largest to smallest in total area:
  • The Iacchan Sea encompasses the continent of Iacchus Argentum and the southern coasts of Chaelwyth. Due to its sheer size and ubiquity of Ley Lines, the waters in the Iacchan Sea are (on average) the roughest in the world, containing both The Great Whirl and the Blasphemed Straits. Merchants who wish to travel between Chaelwyth and Iacchus Argentum by boat typically use the route between Port Ragnarok and Seiruf, as it allows the traveller to completely avoid the Straits, the Whirl, and the Huntsman's Bay (where the Isle of the Archfey is located). The southern Chaelen coast - dotted with settlements like Charion and Illustria - are extremely desirable for its pleasant climate and bountiful sea.
  • The Hebran Sea stretches across the north of the world, encompassing northern Tempora and northern Thur Nirkhum. It is easily the coldest part of the Great Sea and is inhabited by little life beyond the hardiest of fish and flora. Travellers rarely use the Hebran Sea as a viable route for travel, as the Sea is dotted with ice floes and icebergs that make traversal extremely dangerous for all but the most capable of sailors. Much of the terrain surrounded by the Hebran Sea is mountainous and difficult to find a functional place to dock, so the few coastal cities in the area will instead sail into the Ikano, Ignis, and Wanton Seas for trade.
  • The Wildnu Sea is a generally uncharted sect of the Great Sea, as the only continent that borders it is the Forgotten Continent. It possesses the rumored Wildnu Rhombus, a rhombus-shaped area of ocean where loss of life is apparently imminent for those who travel in its waters. Other than that, the few tales told of the Wildnu Sea laud the region for its calm, glittering waters.
  • The Fhirdiadic Sea encompassses part of the Occidental Coast, south Necluda, the Floating Isles of Fhirdiad (Fhirdiad Major), and the eastern coast of the Forgotten Continent. It is widely travelled by merchants due to the presence of two major port cities - Port Walcana and Port Lydia - each of which have import deals with the Fhirdiad Alliance of Sovereign Isles. It is also extremely prone to piracy due to the criminal underbelly in Port Lydia with guilds like the Awful Deep and Everchase present. The seas here are warm and very biodiverse, containing thousands of different species of sea life.
  • The Wanton Sea is a temperate, beautiful area of the Great Sea that encompasses part of the Eastern Kingdom of Chaelwyth and the southern coast of Thur Nirkhum. Despite the lack of populous cities on Eastern Kingdom shores, trade between Thur Nirkhum and the Eastern Kingdom is extremely prevalent due to agreements made between the capitals of Severnia and Nurn Durahl. The waters of the Wanton Sea are calm, making them a desirable place to cruise in summers.
  • The Ikano Sea encompasses all of Ikana and some of Hebra. The southern region of this sea (called the "South Ikano Sea") is a calm, semi-tropical region that is highly desirable for tourists and vacationers; however, the North Ikano Sea is quite rough due to Northerlies that stir up the currents. However, these currents are highly preferable to navigate than the temperatures and ice floes of the Hebran Sea; thus, the Ikano Sea sees significant trade from cities like Oakenward and St. Cethleann's Landing.
  • The Ignis Sea encompasses much of Tempora's east coast, the Isle of Eldin, the Brimstone Mountains, the north coast of Chaelwyth, and a small strip of land in Thur Nirkhum. It is the only volcanically active area of the world, and the vast majority of these volcanic landforms are submarine volcanoes. This Sea is also home to The Hole, the deepest point in the world and the thinnest boundary between Uthilith and The Underdark. As of the current year, there is significant travel between Zonaius, Starkhammer, and Hresvelg.
