Coronet Highlands

"Something about standing on the snowcapped peak of the Coronet Highlands, gazing out at the vast rugged landscape, makes you experience what it feels like to be truly insignificant for the first time. A speck amidst the infinite Multiverse, the Highlands are where one touches the cosmos from this mortal coil."    -taken from a journal of a deceased hiker, CY 1580

Geography

Encompassing almost three-quarters of the Thur Nirkhum continent, the Coronet Highlands is the largest and oldest mountain range in the world. When the Creator first conceived of the world, his dreams were filled with that of snowcapped peaks and jagged rock.   Though the mountains are extensive, its range is also home to thousands of tiny lakes that serve as deposits for melted snow in the warmer seasons.    The Highlands surround the Schneespitze Tundra, a large frozen plain that falls upon the intersections of the Ley Lines for the Elemental Plane of Water and Elemental Plane of Air.

Localized Phenomena

The most significant phenomena in the Highlands is that the Portal of Creation is buried deeply in its depths. Surrounding the Portal is a mass of strange psychokinetic energy, emitted as radiation from the sole gateway to Exandria.

Climate

Temperature and precipitation generally tend to fluctuate based on where one examines the Coronet Highlands. Its most central parts are extraordinarily cold and snowy, with maximum temperatures of 60 degrees in midsummer. The further east/west you find yourself, the more temperate and lush the Highlands become.

History

The Coronet Highlands were named for the coronation of Astrid Ermendrud in the early first century. Even though Thur Nirkhum has distanced themselves from the colonial empire, they have kept the name for millennia.
