Charion (KAIR-ee-ahn)

"Even in summer's peak do the mists of Charion shroud the elven abodes, a thin veil that hides away the desolate sun's rays."   Charion is a town of almost exclusively drow elves, which is a bizarre sight in Uthilith. They remain an idyllic fishing community on the southernmost point of Chaelwyth, and are only able to remain as successful as they are thanks to the presence of the nearby Seaside Stones.

Demographics

100% Drow Elf, occasionally referred to as Dark Elves

Government

Chariite government consists of a village council of the five oldest citizens, regardless of demonstrated politics or inclination towards leadership. The oldest of the five - generally in their seventh century of life (as the maximum recorded lifespan of any Uthilithian elf is 756 years old) - is considered to be the Village Elder. They preside over the bulk of decision-making, particularly in incidents that require swift and decisive action.

Defences

This society has been invaded several times by pirates and raiders, but Charion has one of the few monastic institutions in Chaelwyth - the Temple of Stars and Sea. These monks are intrinsically linked with the Astral Sea, drawing their power from the heavens and tides to protect their home from foes.

Industry & Trade

Charion's internal industry is that of a fishing village, having adopted the Potamoian cuisine called sushi as a staple in the last five centuries or so.    Externally, it uses jewelry as its prime source of income. Charion has several jeweler artisans, and their craft is incredibly time-intensive (but will create some of the most beautiful pieces you've ever seen). The Lady Maud is a known lover of these objects, and has on occasion had them specially commissioned to carry powerful enchantments.

Infrastructure

The most significant structure in Charion is the Wayward Lighthouse, a structure aligned with the goddess Zisnera that calls out to those lost at sea. Even in cases where the forlorn sailor was lost halfway across the world, the benevolent light of Zisnera is enough to call them to the Chaelen shores.

Districts

Similarly to most Uthilithian villages, there are only two "districts": the meager downtown/industry, and the residential outcroppings where its citizens live. However, thanks to the longevity of this small civilization, everything is absolutely immaculate in appearance.

Assets

Charion is quite wealthy, as far as villages are concerned. This is primarily due to its stock of precious stones and metals that are ever-present in the area surrounding the village, including the bejeweled bounty that seem to grow around the Seaside Stones at the beginning of every century. This "Great Harvest" is enough to economically tide the citizens over for more than a century, putting any surplus into storage for emergency. Without the pressure of working towards taxations imposed by the Occidental Kingdom, it allows the Drow here a life of leisure and learning.

Architecture

Drow architecture closely mirrors styles found in ancient Korean and Japanese religious architecture - grand pagodas built of sandstone and marble, unfazed by the elements. Most of the pagoda-style buildings are in the downtown area of Charion, housing businesses.   The homes are generally structures that focus on bringing out the intrinsic beauty of simplicity, focusing on creating a strong bond between the individual and the natural world. Wide open spaces with little clutter, sliding doors to create an intimately connected large room... the Drow have mastered the craft of tranquil homes.

Geography

Charion is built directly on a grassy hilltop that gently slopes to shores of smooth rock, eternally enshrouded by a faint layer of mist.

Natural Resources

The most popular crystal sourced from Charion is blue sandstone, harvested from the long shores beneath town and magically reinforced to create the gorgeous glittering stone. It comprises the most affordable jewelry sold from Charion, and is quite popular as a gift in Fenrir.
