The Great Divide

"You stand on the precipice of an extraordinarily steep cliff that stretches into a canyon as far as the eye can see - a massive separation in the earth, bounded by stratified rock. The Divide is sun-scorched and a deep red; a winding, narrow river stretches across the bottom."

Geography

The Great Divide is the largest Uthilithian Canyon, stretching between 400 and 500 miles from northern tip (meeting the Sanscomb Forest) to southern tip (where the Division River - the body of water that flows through the entirety of the Divide - meets the Uthilith Great Sea). It is the eastern boundary of House Althis and House Moor territory, and is a part of the central unincorporated territory claimed by no noble house.

History

The Great Divide was formed in Uthilith's earliest hours, when the Ancient Master of Transmutation created an artifact to fend off residual aberrations from the Creator's cognition. However, the Gauntlet did much more than slay the aberrations tormenting the lands of Silver Revelry - it sculpted the countryside of central Iacchus Argentum, carving out a canyon of immense proportions.   Towards the end of the Ancient Master's life, he chose to build a dungeon deep within the Great Divide to hide the artifact from the public eye. In the summer of CY 1679, an adventuring party called The Killjoys would venture into the canyon to find the Gauntlet as a component in L'escalier du diable. They were successful in collecting the object and deactivating the defenses of the dungeon, and went on their merry way.   The Great Divide is a known respite for bandits, smugglers, and thieves due to the confusing geography and immense scale of the landscape. As the vast majority of Iacchus Argentum is arid-adjacent grassland, being able to make use of the winding paths and craggy corners is ideal for folks looking to attack unsuspecting tourists. In recent years, a few Knights of Avena have been tasked to scouring the landscape to bring these thugs to justice.
