Bay of Evandyr

Maybe this time... it will be different.

Catastrophe came, and they protected us, the ancient ones that came before. Beneath their shields and wards we hid, until the horrors went for the throat, to their homes, which were left undefended to defend us instead.   Now they're gone, and we are left to protect ourselves against the Rot in the world...   The peoples of the world can not trace their origins to the Bay of Evandyr, and the world did not begin here... yet here it continues. Following the , the ancient Elven Empire of Erinion vanished, their ancient fortressess in a near perfect circle around the Bay left abandoned, as well as their fabled capital.   Nonetheless, the peoples that survived continued. The Children of Jeria took instead to Jeria, alongside the now homeless elves of Erinon. There, they beat back the harsh and monstrous land to call it their own. Then, they left the Bay, a ruined memory of the greatness that was Erinion.   Other mortals had civlizations througout the Bay. Qu'ara, Tel Sephirah, barbaric tribes. Yet these fell to the entropy of history in the Silent Times before modern recording of history. Beginning with the Bay's calendar in 348 AB with the The Feast of Hell, Golryon became the first torch in a land of darkness. Though these dark ages were grueling, Dinlirys and the Stavik’s Highlands would rise from it as well, creating bastions of civilization. However, it did not spread far beyond the borders of fortified cities and fortresses. It was only together that mortals would survive the night.
The discovery of The Arcane Magic & Darkwater Chest Discovered changed the entire world, but the Bay inherited its power. Arcane magic had not existed in the world before this point in 699 AB, and on one fateful day, it was dredged up from the floor of the Bay. A ship led by Lofus Stormborn was lucky enough to take this chest for themselves. Within moments, power in the world shifted to those that held magic, rather than those with the most coin and soldiers. This new class became much more powerful than others, while the magic was simultaneously purely in the hands of the rich and their allies/agents. This Plutocratic Magocracy extended through the southern Bay, but did not control The Isles of Erinion or Stavik’s Highlands, as the Magocrats desired not to share their power, and thereby lose the advantage. This nonetheless stalled any advances from the city-states upon these territories.   As the Arcanosciences are brought to new heights, new magitechnologies are discovered and applied. With each new discovery, such as the eternal lantern, the self-propelled rowboat, and the like, the world changes. In the coming golden age of this Magical Renaissance, the future seems bright. A newworld with low-tier magic spread nearly throughout the lands, The Bay is now fraught street-mages, children trading magical luck charms before tests, and nobles with tattooed Runes of Power.   Further, a second Darkwater Chest was discovered in 852 AB, allowing the Runes of Control and Power and Entropy to create elemental artifice and machinery. Ships with arcane wind sails. Floating platforms for elevators. Later still, airships and the creation of the Warforged during war. All these advancements were not shared with others in the Bay, held only in the city-states, leading to tensions... and in 898-905 AB, the War of Manifest Mythopeia.
