The Scion's Coasts

"The skies cry our names, my lads, the Storm will carry us home..."

--Theobald the Traveller, when the Reefmen were fleeing the Age of Malevolent Motifs, in 620 BBE (-620).

There was a time, millennia ago, when the world was besieged by it's fundamental components. When, the sky hailed down entities from the dimensions of the Themes, which number sixteen, and these entities would lay waste to the fledgling civilizations upon Evandyr.   They couldn't swim however.   And so the men of the Blackwich Reef and later the Lightless Atoll, after being destroyed by the sieging Daemons, journeyed north. Without a home, save the ship. Without a family, save the crew. These people, descended from those who fought and escaped from the old Avernal Regimes, returned to the coasts only briefly to find supplies. Each time some of the ships attempted to build a settlement, the Thematic beings from the sky would return, and destroy it. Slowly, the ships numbers dwindled, resorting then to joining the beasts in raiding surviving settlements for what supplies would sustain them on their journey north, hoping feebly to find a safe haven.   Tarakon and the Azure Shroud lied in their path, and it was then that they lost the most of their peoples, to the tribes that crowned devils and archons and dragons as chieftains, and to the monolithic powers in the Shroud. Then, they came to the northern coasts of Evandyr, protected on either side by Erinion, though they would not know of Erinion for many centuries, and the Azure Shroud, though none understand it's power to this day.

These coastlines, however thin, bracing between the hurricanes from the northern seas and the mountains or dark forests to the south, became home to these people. Their settlements could never grow past a certain point, as at any time they might have to flee them to the sea again to escape the Age's beasts, and only so many people could be saved upon their ships.   In 612 AB, the Shaper's Guild was contracted to build for the Durumi a citadel against the forces of the land, so that they may find a permanent residence there and be safe in their land. In 682 AB, all of the Durumi regions again contracted this guild to build many more fortresses. This allowed them to finally truly call the land theirs.

All paths lead to those ancient oaks. All lives feed their roots. The Forest of Dead Men where we will all go, in the end.
