Erebor

This is the name of both THE LONELY MOUNTAIN and the Dwarf Home located in it.   Founded in 1999 TA by Dwarves, led by THRAIN , fleeing the disaster at KHAZAD-DUM . It had originally been a small mining camp, but soon became a full fledged Dwarves home. It prospered and the Dwarves experienced great wealth. With the most precious find being the Arkenstone.   In 2210 T.A., 10 years into the reign of THORIN I , the King decided to relocate the Royal House to the Grey Mountains. Their they reestablished a Dwarf Home. In 2589 T.A. the plague of Dragons hit the Dwarves of Erebor, and their King Dain I as the COLD DRAKE , RAENAR , took their home from them.   The new King Thror moved his people back to Erebor. There they re-established the Kingdom Under The Mountain. This led to the founding of the CITY OF DALE , and was part of a boom of trade and peace in the North of Wilderland. This peaceful time ended in 2770 T.A. with the coming of SMAUG THE MAGNIFICENT .   Smaug, took Erebor, and forced the Dwarves he didn't kill to flee. Thror and his son THRAIN escaped through a secret tunnel that was too small for Smaug to find and close. In the ensuing years Smaug maintained his hold on the vast horde of Dwarven treasure he had captured.   In 2941 Thorin Oakenshield led a company of Dwarves accompanied by one HOBBIT . They were able to find and enter through the same tunnel his Grandfather and Father had escaped down. The brave Hobbit BILBO BAGGINS found Smaug on his treasure pile, by good fortune he found and retreived the Arkenston. This encounter and the "theft" of the Arkenstone led Smaug to exit his deep hold, and in his anger and conceit he went to attack Laketown. There he was shot be BARD OF DALE , and thus was killed.   Things were not immediately peaceful, in fact Dwarves, Men, and Elves were ready to come to blows over the wealth contained in Erebor. Only the sudden attack of the ORCS OF THE MISTY MOUNTAINS and the ORCS OF THE GREY MOUNTAINS attacked. Banding together to face this common enemy led to victory, and a realization that they needed to cooperate. Thorin Oakenshield died in the Battle and was succeeded on the throne by DAIN his cousin and King of the DWARVES OF THE IRON HILLS .   Dain saw the need to share some of the recaptured wealth with the MEN OF DALE and the ELVES OF MIRKWOOD . This sharing set the tone for a better relationship between all three Kingdoms and their people. It also sped the rebuilding of Dale and Laketown, and allowed the Elves to recupirate from their losses from Smaug over the years. This has all lead to a new spring of hope in Wilderland as trade begins to move again up and down the roads.
