Dale

A city located on the RIVER RUNNING near the gates of Erebor. It is ruled by King BARD .   When the Dwarves of Erebor returned from their long sojourn in the Grey Mountains their Kingdom began to grow. It's need for food and other basic trade stuffs attracted Men from those living in the Northern marches of Wilderland. As the trade grew more came until a City had grown on the River just South of the Gates of Erebor.   By 2770 T.A. Dale was a thriving City with a King, GIRION . When Smaug, The Magnificent attacked Erebor, he also attacked Dale. Driving the men off, they found themselves dispersing to the South, or taking up residence on the The Long Lake in what would become Laketown.   When Smaug was roused by THORIN OAKENSHIELD'S COMPANY , his initial thought was that the Men of Laketown were behind the intrusion. So that was where he went. Unfortunately for him Bard of Dale a descendant of Girion was a guardsmann in Laketown. His well placed arrow brought down the fell beast. The attack, and then death throes of the great beast destroyed Laketown. Bard was pushed to the forefront of those that found themselves homeless on the shore of the Long Lake.   Bard led them North to the Mountain, where they hoped to lay claim to some of the wealth from the hoard. They knew the Dwarves had gone to take it, and having killed the dragon on top of suffering from it over the years felt they had a good and just case. Soon an army from the WOODLAND REALM also arrived with a similar claim. The Dwarves would have none of it, and with a friendly army of their own from the Dwarves of the Iron Hills negotiations were a non-starter and battle was imminent. It was then that Orcs of the Misty Mountains and Orcs of the Grey Mountains attacked them all. Thus began The Battle of Five Armies.   When it was over the good feelings of victory, and the death of Thorin Oakenshield , making DAIN I King Under the Mountain ressulted in a sharing of the wealth. That lead to a refounding of Dale under a new King: Bard.   Today Bard is on its way back to being a thriving trade center. Much of it has been restored, and many goods pass through its streets and warehouses.
