Laketown
Laketown was originally founded by merchants from Dale during the 200 years when the Dwarves first ruled from under the @LONELY MOUNTAIN. The merchants moved to the Lake to enjoy the power and freedom of sitting on this great cross roads of comerce.
When Smaug, The Magnificent had destroyed Dale. Some inhabitants fled to the town in the middle of The Long Lake , where they were able to live in some peace from the Great Worm. This Laketown was destroyed by Smaug on his rampage following the theft of the Arkenstone , by Bilbo Baggins . Bard of Dale leader of the City Watch fired the black arrow that killed the beast.
Not everyone was interested in resettling Dale. Some preferred to resume their water born existence. So Laketown was reborn although in a version that was closer to shore. Today it is a busy crossroads of trade. It's bustling streets are the scene for much commerce and much less worthy activity. It is an open town with its share of good and bad people.
