Dwarves of Erebor
These Dwarves were from Khazad-Dum. Coming to Erebor after the awakening of DURIN'S BANE . Originally this was a small test mine, but was enlarged and made into it's own DWARF HOME . They were lead there by THRAIN I , who established himself as KING UNDER THE MOUNTAIN . In these early days they found their great treasure: the Arkenstone.
However, the Dwarves were restless for larger Mountains to expand in, and so under THORIN I , they moved to the Grey Mountains in 2210 T.A. They lost their home their during the WAR OF DWARVES AND DRAGONS . Leaving the Grey Mountains to the drakes THROR they returned to Erebor, where they lived prosperously until the coming of Smaug, The Magnificent in 2770 T.A.
After their defeat by Smaug the remnant left the mountain and some went to their mining outpost in the Iron Hills, others returned to the Grey Mountains, and some moved on to ERIADOR , where they wandered playing their trades as best they could. Thror was captured by the NECROMANCER OF DOL GULDUR , and was discovered in his dungeon by Gandalf, the Grey who brought the map Thror provided to his son and Heir Thorin Oakenshield.
Thorin gathered his scattered kin and returned to Erebor to find out if there was some way to kill Smaug and regain their kingdom. In their effort to scout out the mountain, their burglar Bilbo Baggins found and retrieved the Arkenstone. This enraged Smaug who then left the mountain, and was slain while attacking Laketown by Bard of Dale. With Smaug gone Thorin II began his short reign as King.
Smaug's death brought all the fair folks of the area together with thoughts that his gold could help pay for the restoration of that which they had lost during the dragons reign. They were stopped by the Dwarves making up THORIN OAKENSHIELD'S COMPANY . Thorin II was insistent that the gold would not be shared, and the parties were on the brink of battle when Orcs and their fell allies appeared. This lead to The Battle of Five Armies. Thorin II died in the battle.
He was succeeded by his cousin and heir DAIN the KING OF THE IRON HILLS . Dain being a leader of a nation in this troubled land saw the wisdom in sharing the hoard, and there is now peace in Wilderland.
Today these Dwarves are a wealthy lot, and are inclined towards large enterprises and trade. They have close ties with their kin the DWARVES OF THE IRON HILLS . In fact Dain I rules over a combined Kingdom, with his son ruling over the Iron Hills.
