Mirkwood

Once known as GREENWOOD THE GREAT , this forest of Wilderland was transformed starting in 1050 from one of the great forests to a place of darkness and shadow. The shadow took up residence in the tower of DOL GULDUR in Southern Mirkwood, and with it came Giant Spiders and Orcs. The many wild creatures of Greenwood were pushed out by these newcomers. In the North there was some barrier to it as the ELVES OF MIRKWOOD , the descendants of the the Nandor who refused to cross the Misty Mountains as the ELDAR made their way to Valar.   These Elves were forced to retreat by the Shadow from controlling the whole of the forest to having only the North. And, even here the shadow has caused much change. Except when the Elves themselves are present the forest is a place of shadow and darkness with only the trees that seem to absorb light, and the strange dark wild creatures. Even here the Giant Spiders roam the lands, although the Orcs seldom come North of The Old Forest Road.   The Forest is currently seeing a time where the darkness has receded some, and there is hope that in the future it will again be known as Greenwood. The WHITE COUNCIL was able to force the NECROMANCER out of Dol Guldur. Still the damage has been done, and the evil creatures and twisted trees and plants remain.
