Valeston
Deep within the heart of Darkvale Forest on the edge of North Lake, lies the small town of Valeston. True to its original purpose, Valeston serves as a waypoint for traders who wish to stop for rest while travelling through Darkvale Forest. The people of Valeston lead simple lives far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life; they fish in the North Lake, hunt for food and furs in the forest, and harvest trees to build their houses. They only get news of the kingdom from visitors but don't see many; the silence of the forest casts and eerie feeling over the town that makes most people uncomfortable.
History
The story of the founding of Valeston is a strange one. In 1167 the city of Pinemarch had begun to grow in size and was in the midst of expanding its lumber operations. Teams were sent throughout Darkvale Forest to find new areas where cedar trees grow as cedar wood was in high demand as a building material. One of the teams was sent northeast to scout the edge of North Lake but didn't come back when the others did. Search parties were sent to the area and discovered nothing of the whereabouts of the original team but did find an area which was full of the cedar trees they wished to harvest. The search party reported back and a team of lumberjacks were sent to set up operations at the cedar tree patch on the edge of North Lake, but when they tried to cut into the cedar trees their metal axes and saws could not even scratch the wood of the trees. The lumberjacks tried all the methods they knew of but couldn't make a dent in the cedar trees, try as they might, so they went back to Pinemarch to report their failure. Upon hearing the reports the people of Pinemarch became superstitious and came to the conclusion that the area was blessed by the gods and was to be left alone. A year later a lone messenger appeared in Pinemarch saying that they were part of the original group of scouts sent to find patches of cedar trees and that they had come to report their success, they had found the patch of cedar trees by the edge of the North Lake and had started a small township there, to him it had only been a couple of months. To this day the mystery of the sudden re-appearance of the people of Valeston hasn't been solved.
