The Arbor

The Arbor is a forest located at the base of The Highpeak Range in the south and north of The Arborside Lake. The forest is fed by the mineral-rich mountain waters of the Highpeak Range which have made the ground fertile and very hospitable to plant life and it is said to be watched over by a mythical guardian spirit, left behind by Pan the God of Nature, to ensure the circle of life is upheld. The trees of The Arbor are tall and strong and the flowers are bright and vivid as a result. The Arbor is the native home of the halflings and while some do still live in traditional burrows most have now left their forest home behind preferring to live among human society, especially in Brewton.

Geography

The Arbor is a woodland crisscrossed with fast-flowing clear rivers which trickle down from the mountains of The Highpeak Range into tributaries before finally converging into rivers which feed The Arborside Lake. The northern regions of The Arbor contain the foothills of The Highpeak Range causing the land to gently oscillate with rises and slopes, whereas the southern regions are more plains-like and flat. Trees in this forest grow tall and thick, they open out into large green canopies that somehow still seem to let the sun reach the forest floor. The mountain mineral water fed earth provides perfect conditions not only for the trees but also for the underbrush of the forest floor, which is a mixture of forest ferns, plants, flowers and mushroom patches that grow along the forest paths and beneath the larger trees, all feeding on the nutrient rich soil. The assembly of the underbrush paints a beautiful natural groundscape of vivid colour. There is an established path through the forest where travelers have trodden down the undergrowth over the years to form a clear passage way and in some places, cobblestone bridges have been build to ford rivers too wide and fast flowing to cross otherwise.
