Old Owl Watch

A watchtower built in 1345 by the humans of The Kingdom of Illargos during the war with the dwarven clans. It was used as an early warning system by settlements to the east to keep a look out for the movements of dwarven skirmishing parties, it was built in the middle of an islet at the center of Old Owl Lake in the hopes that the dwarves, who famously dislike sailing of any kind, wouldn't be able to make the journey across the lake. The humans were proved wrong in 1349 when the dwarves used the cover of night and makeshift rafts to ferry themselves across the lake to the watchtower, after reaching the tower they quickly dispatched the guards who were taken unawares and destroyed the watchtower. The attack was reported by a sole survivor of the event, the child of the captain of the watch who managed to get past the dwarves and escape on a boat, fleeing to Arborside. Old Owl Watch has remained abandoned since it's fall.

History

The humans who amnned Old Owl Watch were tasked to keep an eye out for dwarven skirmishing parties heading east towards budding human settlements, a task that would have been impossible were it not for an magically enchanted pair of goggles, known as the Eyes of Milia, which allowed the user to see great distances in any light level. The Eyes of Milia were trusted to the captain of the watch, a human male by the name of Alrich Everham, who would have one of his men on watch use them to survey the areas on the northern and western shores of the lake, if any activity was spotted the guards would light the great beacon at the top of the tower as a warning for nearby settlements or soldiers to prepare or evacuate before the dwarves came. Many settlers owe their lives to Alrich and the Eyes of Milia, both of which were lost when the dwarves eventually tore down Old Owl Watch in 1349. It is assumed that the dwarves took the Eyes of Milia for themselves, but there have been no more reported instances of such an item being mentioned in events since the fall of Old Owl Watch.
