Grimrock Delve

Located on the road between Brewton and Pinemarch lies Grimrock Delve. Up until recently, Grimrock Delve was a small trading settlement with a charming community made up of mostly farmers with a scattering of tradesmen, however when prospectors found an abundant source of silver in the mountains to the north, Grimrock Delve underwent a rapid transformation from small trade post to an industrious township through which silver now flows to all corners of the Kingdom of Illargos. Grimrock Delve is known kingdom-wide for it's silver mine and attracts the eyes of miners, labourers, and merchants all hoping to benefit off the silver trade, but it has also garnered a bad reputation for criminal activity, specifically within the miner's slums on the western side of the town. There's a popular saying in Grimrock Delve, that 'Blood and Silver run like rivers'.

Demographics

Prior to the opening of the silver mines north of Grimrock Delve you'd have seen a community of mostly humans with a fair sized population of halflings and a scattering of elves inhabiting the town, but with the mines open labourers from all corners of the region have begun to flock towards the mining town, resulting in populations of half-orc labourers and tiefling and half elven merchants.

Government

The nobleman in charge of Grimrock Delve is none other than the eldest son of Eirik Argetpaw - The Argetpaw Family's patriarch - Exquisitine Argetpaw, who oversees his father's silver mining operations while running the town. Exquisitine employs a town reeve to oversee the law enforcement of Grimrock Delve by the name of Joris Bonson, who does his best to tackle the crime problem in the town's slums using militia volunteers from the town, but with little success.

History

Established in 1359, Grimrock Delve used to be a small tarding post which sat on the road between major trade points Pinemarch in the north and Illiad and Arborside in the east,  but in 1402 prospectors discovered an abundance of silver ore in the mountains to the north and mining operations began. The operations were quickly taken over by The Argetpaw Family who expanded the operations to big deeper into the mountains, the increase in activity caused the population of Grimrock Delve to surge with workers of the mine taking up residence within the town. A rift quickly formed between the miners and their families who had flock to Grimrock Delve for work and the original inhabitants who were enjoying a peaceful country life; the miner's residences were quickly and cheaply built which resulted in a slum the size of nearly half of the town's area. Crime is rife within the slums and the towns peacekeepers are struggling to prevent it from spilling forth into the wealthier residential areas, they have no help from house Argetpaw's guards who are only concerned with guarding the silver coming out of the mines rather than the people. At present time there is a palpable tension in town felt even by those travelling to Grimrock Delve for the first time.
