Lati
"Weakness is a Disease to cut out and exterminated, through usurpation, cleansing, and betrayal. If One cannot survive in this cut-throat universe, One is not worthy of being a Lati" -Barik
Its Sith. They are just the Sith from SWTOR.
They channel Kali Energy through emotion and are known for being cruel tyrants. They are revered by the populace of Laran, known as the Lerin as a living pantheon, and the greatest of the Lati become Gods in the eyes of the Lerin, immortalized through temples and veneration.
The Lati view themselves as superior to all others, through both their empire and their
Inkallu . They act as the government of Laran and religious figures, prophets, etc. Each Lati has its own power base which acts as a noble house, some going back millennia.
The Lati have an ancient rivalry with the Nameless. Most have forgotten the reason for the feud, but know an undying hatred for the other group. Aside from philosophical differences, the worshippers of the Nameless have positioned themselves as the defenders of Achronis, a state which has repeatedly stopped Laran's expansion and domination of the known Rift.
Lati Culture is one of betrayal and manipulation in an endless scramble for power. It often resembles feudal squabbling as each house vies for more power and a seat on the Laka Council.
Something to note about Lati and their relation to Inkallu and Kali Energy. Their overuse of it results in a form of corruption unique to them, where their eyes will begin to glow with purple and black energy, the effect becoming more permanent as their usage continues and deepens. The more intensive rituals and abilities will result in a permanent sluggish mist accompanying them, and some will have their skin and flesh begin flaking off, revealing naught but abyss underneath. Skin will become more pallid, and blood will become acidic. These are the most common effects of Inkallu over-usage, though the experience is unique to every Lati.
Something else that can corrupt is the area around the Lati when they are channeling their abilities. This is less to do with the Lati and more with the power being used. Obvious things such as lightning and other physical manifestations affect their environment, but if a Lati is channeling energy inward to empower themselves, shadows around them can writhe and strain against the light. Air can become distorted as onlookers begin to see things conjured from the Lati's mind if the Lati in question uses some sort of telepathy. And of course every time Inkallu is used, Inkallu will detect the magic in their unique way.
Lati gain their powers from emotion, and often this is extremely literal. Some Lati are empowered being in the presence of any emotions, some require sense and feeling in excess. Others work as a sort of energy vampire, draining a person of their passion for the time being, empower and rejuvenating themselves (often literally). This near never results in the death of the drained, more often leaving them feeling horrible for a few days.
A more peculiar variation of Lati are those who taste different emotions as someone would different foods and spices, requiring they get the perfect blend to gain the most out of their emotional "meal", so to speak. This overlaps with the other variants of either simply experiencing the emotion of themselves & others and the variant of Lati which eats feelings. These aren't the only types of Lati, as everyone experiences their emotional requirement differently, just the most common and interesting varieties.

Structure
As this is more of a binding philosophy than organized religion, the hierarchies are loose, but some common titles remain.
Adept - Any Lati who failed training but were seen as too useful to kill, or not enough of a threat to leave alive become adepts. They are the bottom of Lati society, used as laborers and engineers. They take on a position similar to skilled workers in most of the Lati power structures, taking care of Inkallu related tasks beneath the other Lati. Many Adepts have gained influence in such positions, but any power they wield is always in the shadows.
Acolyte - The name given to the lowest rank of Lati. Those who have graduated from the Otanli academy but have not been bound to an existing Lord or promoted. Someone is usually not referred to as "Acolyte name" just known as their name.
Apprentice - Any Lati who has yet to be given a title but works underneath another Lati is known as an Apprentice. Apprentices usually learn from their masters in the first years of their servitude, taking on an Employee role as they learn all their master is willing to teach them. An apprentice who defeats their master usually claims their title, position, and resources. Someone is usually not referred to as "Apprentice name" just known as their name.
Varma - Also known as Lord, this title can be awarded to any Acolyte by any one of Eranti status or above. This is given to Lati with sizable power bases who have proven themselves as powerful, both personally and politically.
Erati - This title is awarded to those who have proven themselves to be immensely powerful in combat, and immensely powerful politically. A Varma might rule a planet, but a junior Erati rules and entire system, and a senior Erati can control an entire section of Tzaran Streams . This title can be awarded by any Erati or above.
Laka - This is the title given to any Lati on the Laka Council, the six ruling houses of Laran. Anyone powerful enough to get onto the Council is an incarnation of death itself and has to have had the savvy to stay alive to be able to claim such a coveted position. Anyone who claims this title gets the resources of their predecessor, along with the duties of the position. It is claimed either through ritual combat, or dynastic succession rules.

Culture
Lati culture is completely dominated by their desire for power. Some have no end in sight once they have gained the Power they seek, while some have a goal so massive it will forever remain out of reach. A quote by Barik can summarize this fairly well.
A common attitude among the Lati is disapproval of change. The Lati are obsessed with the idea of reliving ancient glory, resulting in the demonization of experimentation and progress, at least among Inkallu related subjects. The Lati tend not to care about what the Lerin do, as long as it boosts their ascension to greater heights, though there are the few that work with the Lerin to advance non-magical sciences. Lati cooperation is practically required for science to advance, due to how most power sources work.
A Lati with one trusted friend who views themself as that Lati's equal is doing better than most. We all have worshippers in the masses, and rivals in each other, but if you have at least one person you trust with all your heart, you are in an ideal situation-Barik
Public Agenda
The Public Agenda of the Lati is the same as the Public Agenda of Laran, conquest, domination, and rulership of the Rift.
Assets
Lati have all the assets of Laran. As previously explained, one cannot view the Lati as a unified force, but more warring factions bound by a common philosophy, a common enemy, and rulership of an empire.
History
The first Lati originated on the desert world of Otanli thousands of years ago, fighting wars against each other for power and building ancient monuments designed to trap power. These were all
Makassi. They were found by a spacefaring civilization that originated from another in system archipelago. The Lati reverse-engineered technology shown to them, and conquered their neighbors, forcing the population into chattel slavery with the few non Inkallu Makassi. They quickly conquered the rest of the system and all the other systems that could be reached by traveling at sublight speeds.

Mul-Zamain unlocked the secret of Stream Travel and led the Crusade out across the Stars, to conquer everything in existence. Reformations occurred to manage the new Empire, led by Barik. After centuries, the Lati encountered the Nameless and Achronis and the constant conflict intensified. This was the start of the first Amnis War, and at the height of the war, an accident cause a sun to go Supernova in the span of a minute, completely destroying a part of the Tzaran Streams and cutting off Laran from the rest of the Rift. It is rumored that Mul-Zamain was the one who made the explode, and that his plan backfired.

Achronis space were discovered, they resumed their warpath, and the two great states have been fighting for the last few centuries. Neither can leave their area of space as the Spirit Cartel own the systems required to pass beyond the known Rift, so the two great powers continue fighting, hoping to one day defeat the other and claim their place as the ruler of the Rift
Demography and Population
The Lati are overwhelmingly Human and Makassi, with about 5% of all Lati being aliens. Of the overall Larani populace, Lati are maybe 10%, yet have all the influence. Were a Lati to wish a Lerin's death, that Lerin is dead unless a more powerful or influential Lati stepped in.
Lati are generally anointed as Lati in their 20's, and most last a few years before dying. Adepts aren't spared, as despite not being comparable to Lati in power, they play their own power games within their own subcaste. If a Lati survives their first 5-10 years, they are likely to last at least another decade, their death coming usually from battle or a brazen power play executed by another Lati.

Territories
Each Lati and Dynasty control their own regions, planets, systems, the most powerful control entire branches of the Tzaran Streams. Again, it changes based on who you're referring to.
Military
Again, Dynasty to Dynasty basis.
Technological Level
The Crysalis, while easy to produce and easy to access for Lerin within Laran's military, is only commercially used by Lati. It is a privilege maintained for the highest class, the exception being Lerin closet Lati, those who allow them to access their priveleges.
While both Lati and Nameless use Vanadium, the Lati variants are often enchanted with corruptive effects and rituals.
As Inkallu channeled Lightning is something done near exclusively by Lati, Lightning Rods are used by many Lati as an alternate source of Kali Energy to power rituals.

Religion
There are many different cults within the Lati organization. Some are genuinely spiritual, others are just political alliances using spirituality as a way to recruit more Lerin . It is rare to find a cult within the Lati that doesn't have its own Lerin version. Some of the notable ones include...
The Imperial Cult: The Imperial Cult is a Spiritual Group of Lati who claim that while Lati masquerade as gods, the Impirator is a true god, an ascendant. All Lati and Lerin claim some level of allegiance to this group, whether or not they believe that he is a true god in the case of the Lati, or simply the God in the case of the Lerin, but the truly devout would do anything for their Impirator's favor.
The Way Of The Blade: This is a sect of Lati who revere old weapon techniques. Lati fight with empowered melee weapons, but this sect takes to weapons training with a religiosity unseen by most. Most members eschew any form of Inkallu that doesn't involve physical enhancement, devoting everything they have to their weapon practices. They donate one of their more accomplished members to instruct potentials at Otanli in the basics of Lati combat.
Dragonfire: This sect is one of the few groups of Lati who use elemental Inkallu techniques. In actuality, they are several smaller sects who work together politically, the name derived from the largest of the cults, the group who worships fire, its most holy form being derived from the Dragons of Otanli.

Foreign Relations
Lati foreign relations are handled by Laran. As the Lati are not a unified organization, relations within each Dynasty or with outside powers are managed on a Lati to Lati, or Dynasty to Dynasty basis.
Education
The Education of Lati is divided into two phases. The first is on Otanli, where the Overseers start by weeding out the week from any batch of Initiates they are sent. The Initiates are tasked with surviving in the wilds of Otanli for a month, though often the biggest hazard is other Initiates. The Initiates must return to the Temple to Power by the end of the month, or be cast out to be killed when found. Once they do, the Overseers spend the next year teaching the Acolytes to use Inkallu , and teaching them Lati culture and history. Throughout the year, they are sent out on trials designed to weed out the weak and least fit of the Initiates. Once the year is up, any excess are sent to the school of Adepts to be trained in their new roles. The remainder are sent out into Laran to carve their destinies.
The second phase of their education is education by experience. Lati learn by living in their society, though those that fall into a power structure are often taught by their masters and immediate superiors. Since most who enter a power structure and up as part of a Dynasty of Power, the prospecting Lati will wait until they think their master has taught them everything they know, before killing and succeeding them. Knowing this, the master will oft conceal some knowledge, yet make it obvious to their prospecting student that something is being hidden. Why a Lati would take a student, knowing they're likely to wind up dead for it, is the Laka Council demands all Lati who rank as Varma or higher to take students as a way of ensuring the continuation of the Lati. Dynasties also have a vested interest in ensuring their Dynastie's survival, especially as the most prominent have the spirits of their ancestors still at the head, spirits who demand their descendants finish what they started.

Mythology & Lore
The Mythology of the Lati are the stories, sometimes embellished but often told truthfully, of great Lati fo the past. Lati who reached levels of power that Lati today could only dream of. Since the Lati truly worship no one except (in some cases)the Impirator.
Depending on where in the empire a Lerin lives, different Lati will hold more sway. It is unlikely they would worship a Lati who rules some planet several large Streamways away. A Lerin would recognize their divinity, but wouldn't worship them. They are more likely to worship some central figures, such as Mul-Zamain and Erati Barik, and then the Lati who rule and have ruled the planet and system where you live.
Some Planets fashion each Lati ruler as another aspect of a pantheon of them, a way of keeping track of large pantheons. Different areas of the planet will worship that specific aspect of the overall god.

Tenets of Faith
Lati value many traits, different Lati holding different things in higher regard. Here are the three most often held in high esteem.
Ambition: A Lati without ambition is a disgrace to the rest. In Lati society, Ambition is required to even survive, much less thrive.
Cunning: A Lati may have ambition, but without the cunning to act on that ambition, a Lati may as well be a floundering fish in a rapidly shrinking pond.
Power: It's base, but it's essential. If one can't defend themself, either through subordinates, proxies, or their own prowess, they aren't worthy of influence. In this way, influence and power near always have a direct relationship.

Political Influence & Intrigue
Sects
Each Lati holds their own philosophy, though there are some common threads. Sects, such as the examples described above, are Lati with similar philosophies coming together. Either that or simply a political alliance with an interesting theme or gimmick.
Notable Lati Across History Have Been...
Mul-Zamain: The Conquerer of Srital and the Killer of the Nameless. He is the greatest of the constantly expanding Lati pantheon, and the universe is said by the Lerin to be his gift for the Lati to conquer.
Barik: She is a great Lati who created the backbone for the modern Lati state. Working together with her Lerin lover, the two created an Empire that would span millenia.
Arpho: Arpho is the current "get things done" Lati. While they don't have a seat on the Laka Council, they lead the War effort against Achronis. They are seen as a living legend by the Lerin populace, and are likely to be immortalized upon their death.
Power For Freedom
Philosophy
Lati philosophy varies, with as many outlooks to life as there are Lati, but a common factor among most is seeing themselves as the rightful rulers of everything. Something that pervades is also a master race philosophy, at least among the Lati of that species. The Lati, and Laran as a whole view the Makassi as the master race because of the fact that they founded Laran and because most are Inkallu . Those that arent is viewed as the worst of the worst, below even aliens, and forced into slavery. The Lati view religion as beneath them. To quote Mul-Zamain "We do not believe in gods, not to comfort us in darkness nor repress us in light. We do not pull creatures from our mind and imagine them as a higher power, we are the gods. We are to be worshipped by the masses and the subject of prophecy. WE ARE GODS!"Abilities
The Lati are adept with telekinesis and telepathy, with many of the most powerful such as Mul-Zamain also blending in Yar magic to create rituals of immense power. Most use Inkallu to passively increase their physical abilities, resulting in Increased strength, speed, stamina, and little need for sleep to become common among even the weakest Lati. While they generally refrain from using elemental Inkallu , viewing it as barbaric, many make exceptions for lightning.Lati tend not to harness spirits for power, seeing the process as too dangerous or volatile for even the most proficient Inkallu, but an ancient custom was to trap the spirit of a nemesis within an artifact so they had to endure an eternity of pain. Some modified the process and did this to themselves as a way to live on forever, though they soon found this to be a wretched existence. The process has been lost so any bound spirits found are not recent, being at the youngest, centuries old.
Any Lati worth their salt, or even worth dirt, also has some limited precognition. One which will show them trillions of alternate possibilities of the next few seconds and subconsciously whittle them down to present the brain with only a few hundred. This still overloads the brains of many an inexperienced Lati, so it is usually one of the first things Initiates are taught to control. The process is not something that can be done at will however, as the precognition is sporadic, only appearing in times when the Lati is in peril.

The Laka council makes larger policy, and each individual Laka determines policy for their own field, with their own mini council.
Judicial Body
The Judicial Body is covered by the Laka of civil administration. The entire judicial system is covered by what the current Laka and the subordinate they placed in charge of that field's opinions are. It can change from harsh on any alien presence, to progressive at the flip of a dime, or more accurately, at a spurt of blood.

Holy Locations
The Lati are after all a religious organization. The holiest location to both the Lati and the Lerin is the desert world of Otanli, also known as the Monolith. It is a planet about 3000 kilometers in diameter, and it is dominated by ancient temples and monoliths constructed by the ancient Makassi. Millions of Pilgrims come every year to worship at the altar of their gods. It is also where Lati are trained. Zxalcischk is the site of a massive ritual where the current Impirator of Laran gained functional immortality. This one is less famous than Otanli but those in the Imperial Cult see it as the most holy place in Laran. It is also the current seat of government so it is much more accessible that the Monolith.Weapons
The Lati are very traditional about their weapons, even the most progressive. Due to the ancient conquerors using weapons such as enchanted Khopesh and Longswords, every Lati has at least one melee weapon they are reasonably proficient with. These weapons are made of an extremely durable, magically malleable, and mostly synthesized, material known as Vanadium. No Lati would be caught dead without theirs, and most who choose to learn the finer details of Old Lati add enchantments to their weapon, ranging from permanently exuding poison, to disintegrating flesh. It depends on how powerful and how well learned they are.Internal Faction
The Lati are a caste within Laran. They hold every official command position, with Lerin and SLaves working under them.
N/A
Due to the secrecy of the Devoted, there is no official relationship between them and any organization of Lati. In practice, however, most Lati know and fear the power of the members of the Devoted, the Impirator's secret police.
At War
For reasons lost to the past, the Lati and the Nameless have been feuding for over three and a half millennia. While the reasons for its beginnings are lost to history, it has been continuously fueled by mutual enmity, hatred, and ideological differences, all of which have smothered the few attempts to make peace. This rivalry is the reason for the Long War, as the enmity is shared by their respective states.
