The Imperial Cult

The Imperial Cult is the largest sect of Lati and Lerin within Laran. They worship the Impirator as a God, but unlike most other Lati centered cults, this one actually has some merit.

Structure

The Imperial Cult is the organized religion that worships the Impirator in a similar manner as a holy savior. It has clergy and is technically led by the Impirator but due to his reclusive, the second in command is the actual head.

The ranks are...
The Faithful are the standard Lerin worshippers, your average believer.
The Satt are your average Lati worshipper. Most don't genuinely believe in the Impirator's divine status, but there are some. This is likely the only group of Lati in all of Laran where you will find true believers in any religion.
The Pakalir is the priest, the head of any temple. They are usually Adepts or Lati , but on a planet with a shortage of both, Lerin will occasionally take over.
The Vernix is a position similar to a Catholic Bishop, with authority and control over different regions, usually divided into continents. This is reserved entirely for Lati, as is every rank above it.
The Kamoni is the third in command of the Imperial Cult. It is a council of six Vernixs and can be viewed as a Vernix plus.
The Karalik is the second in command of the Imperial Cult, elected from the members of the Kamoni. They are seen as the Impirator's mouthpiece to Laran and while their decree's are few and far between, their order's are obeyed without question.

Culture

The Imperial Cult is dedicated to worshipping the Impirator. Due to the lack of his decrees, the clergy have had to create their own doctrine, which can be summed down to basically the philosophy of the Lati with the added dedication and Loyalty to the Impirator.

Public Agenda

While most people pay at the very least lip service to the Imperial Cult, not everyone does. The Cult's goal is to spread the devotion to the Impirator to everyone within Laran and outside Laran. They have been somewhat successful in the second venture,e but not in any major way.

Assets

The Imperial Cult theoretically has access to the resources of all the members of the Cult, but in practice are running on the personal power bases of the clergy. On occasion, they will receive donations and alliances from powerful Dynasties, but in short, the Imperial Cult acts as a Dynasty of Power in terms of assets.

History

The Imperial Cult was an evolved version of the Impirator's previous powerbase, though as no one knows what it was beforehand, it is considered the same organization.

Religion

The Imperial Cult worships the Impirator as a living God, in a similar manner to the way most Lerin worship most Lati.

Foreign Relations

The Imperial Cult is a religion within Laran so while it has its own conversion efforts outside the Empire, it mostly relies on Laran for its foreign relations.

Worship

There are different temples, each with different practices, depending on the local Pakalir, but in general, there will be a declaration of faith, and a small donation to the Impirator. This will usually be done as an addendum to whatever a person's usual prayer is.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Imperial Cult has a lot of influence over the Laka Council, and the government of Laran, as the Karalik technically speaks with the authority of the Impirator, but isn't often obeyed. It often depends on how close to Nafok Aguot and the Cult's center of power the Lati in question is based.

Sects

Due to the variation in worship from place to place, there are only two notable sects of the Imperial Cult both headed by a member of the Kamoni council who have been barred from becoming Karalik.

The Devoted act as the Impirator's personal secret police, working to erase all evidence of his previous existence. They worship the Impirator through their actions.
The True are the Imperial Cult's action wing. They act as Cult secret police, keeping the clergy and Lerin in line. These are usually the less faithful members of the Cult, ones who joined for power rather than belief.

Primary Religion

While most in Laran have a favorable view of the cult, the cult is often at odds with Laran's public agenda, as expansionism and allowing other Lati to be worshipped near the same status of the Impirator isn't good for getting converts.

Internal Faction

The Imperial Cult sees the Devoted as a sect, an autonomous sect but a sect nonetheless of themselves, but due to the extremism of the Devoted, they are often at odds with the more liberal Cult members.

Religious Differences

While the two don't have any official interaction, Yolilitzcoatl is one of the few houses to explicitly not worship the Impirator, something the Imperial Cult really doesn't like. They consider the Gold Viper to be another branch of the heretics known as the Senpadida Siobkun.

Religious Rivalry

The two Cults are on less than stellar terms. The Kanei largely don't care about the Imperial Cult, while the Imperials loathe the fact that the Kanei are both on good terms with the Siobkun, and that the Impirator doesn't play a major role in their religion.

Religious Rivalry

Due to both vying to be the dominant religion of Laran, and the very violent nature of its citizens, the Imperial Cult and the Senpadida Siobkun are engaged in near all-out war whenever and wherever they can, only pausing their conflicts when absolutely necessary, for national unity, or under penalty of death.
