Vari takes her first apprentice, helping her master, the Erati Akhalis train a Nameless named Vala, who was captured by Akhalis' forces on campaign.

Akhalis sees turning a Nameless to be an opportunity that can't be passed up, as it would be a prestige boost and a jab at the Nameless. Vari is hesitant but takes on the task due to a mix of bribery and threats.
