Kali Energy

Kali Energy is the Metaphysical energy contained in the planets. It is what provides any magic-user with their abilities, and it wants all need to survive, among other things. Some creatures, mostly those that live in Tzaran Streams can feed off just it, though most need to be near it to restock their supply. It's an unconscious thing, so it will rarely come into play in a story, but it's just there. It allows the planets, not large enough to form their own atmospheres, to still seed life. It manifests itself differently to different groups, but the main practitioners of Kali Energy as a form of magic are the Lati, the Nameless Servants, the Yar, and the Alchemists.
Kali Energy is practiced as magic and religion, but also as a science. The Alchemists also take part in this aspect, along with the Lerin Engineers, the Archons, and the Spirit Cartel.
The usage of too much Kali Energy can erode a being's tether to reality and can cause them to disintegrate at a certain point. Those that go too far can even destroy their souls.

Kali Energy As Life Force

Kali energy as a life force is like food. You need it to survive, but you can last a decent while without it, the average among non-Inkallu is about three months. Kali Energy is refilled by simply being near a source of it, such as a planet, or traveling in a Tzaran Streams . The Inkallu have larger reservoirs of Kali but uses their stockpile. The average among them without using any abilities is close to sixth months.
All creatures, humans included, have an extra organ called the Koh attached to their heart, or the closest thing they have for a heart, which acts as their storage unit of Kali. It refills itself whenever it is near a source of Kali Energy. The more sensitive a living creature is to Inkallu , the larger their Koh.

Kali As Magic

Magic or Inkallu is channeled differently depending on both training and biology. Some species, such as the Makassi are more prone to channeling Kali as telekinesis and telepathy and powering their Inkallu through their emotions. They can channel it as elemental magic but it is more difficult for them. Using Inkallu uses up their Kali energy, and there is a very real chance that someone can die if they overextend themselves.
