Monhal

wow that's a lot of stars is a sci-fi setting about adventure, exploration, and discovery. Every person, place, and thing has a story to tell, if you listen closely.   Setting Intro | Visitor's Guide | Author's Intentions
Monhal is the ruins of a former coastal city, razed to the ground during the Monhalian War of Independence. It sits up on a cliff, where a series of stairs, pathways, and lifts facilitated movement to ocean-level piers.
Prior to destruction, the city had a population of approximately 75,000. The royal de la Rosa family resided in the grand palace near its center, and the city was set to become the capital of the Monhalian Union once they’d won their independence from Abraia. It was a key site for fishing and sat near several promising mining locations.   Upon closure of the war, the ruins of the city were signed to Abraia instead of the new Monhalian Union. Abraian soldiers remained to guard the city, preventing anyone from collecting remains of loved ones or visiting what was once their home.
The city continues to be under Abraian control today, guarded primarily to protect others from the ruin’s dangers. Anyone entering the city risks being attacked by loboveno, crushed by crumbling structures, or poisoned by the mushrooms growing beneath the city. While few doubt the city’s dangers, many remain critical of the Abraian government’s handling of the war and subsequent peace with the Monhalian Union, especially as it relates to the city of Monhal.
