wow that's a lot of stars is a sci-fi setting about adventure, exploration, and discovery. Every person, place, and thing has a story to tell, if you listen closely.   Setting Intro | Visitor's Guide | Author's Intentions
The solarpunk planet Devali is a cultural icon of the sector, but the ugly history of its two major countries leaves the taste of bitterness in the air.

This region is fully up-to-date with current material.

Genre

Solarpunk

Themes

  • Using beauty to hide danger
  • Living with or against nature
  • Open wounds from a recent war

Inspiration

The original settlers of this planet were Spanish and Italian. The languages eventually merged to form modern Devalian. Abraia's design is inspired by Singapore, while the Monhalian Union is very Mediterranean.

Geography

Plantlife thrives everywhere on the planet. It coats every bit of dirt above and below sea level. It crawls along the rocky surfaces of mountains, boring roots through stone. Even the coldest reaches at the poles show signs of green beneath the ice.

Lifeforms

Large insects, colorful birds, curious primates, and basking reptiles are common sights in populated areas. Beyond city bounds, larger creatures stalk the forests, plains, and skies. Plants often grow from their bodies where the Devalian dirt collects over time.

Plot Seeds

  • The country of Abraia aspires to perfection. They fight to keep nature tamed and the uglier parts hidden. What are threats to this perfection, and what are the consequences of failure?
  • The Monhalian Union was formed out of a tragedy. Can they recover from what they lost, or will the open wound consume them?
  • Sagaria is an untamed continent of unknown dangers, with pockets of people managing to survive. What hides within the wilderness, waiting to be found?

Future Goals

  • This planet has some of my oldest articles and my style has changed a lot since then. I'd like to rewrite many of these to improve them and better match other articles.
  • It's a crime that this solarpunk planet has only one article describing a plant species and I need to add more once I work through my other backlog.
