The Observatory of Meletis

The Observatory is a tall viewing platform and a windowed structure offering a splendid view of the sky, renowned as a place to study Nyx, the home of the gods. Special crystals shaped by thaumaturges and blessed by the oracles of the gods enhance the view, making it easier for observers to see the workings of the gods among the stars and constellations. Priests, mages, and philosophers interpret what they see in the Observatory as signs and omens from the gods.

Purpose / Function

To allow the people of Meletis to study and interpret the stars, constellations, and workings of the heavens in relation to the Gods and Nyx.

Architecture

Bronze gelding holds together the seams of the rounded down viewing area, which is nearly entirely windows. The floor is a marble that shines among the glowing crystals that help the viewers to look into the stars. The large tower that holds up the Observatory is made with beautiful white stone from the sea and a huge telescope peers out through an opening in the roof. It stands above the surrounding buildings and is easy to find in the wealthier end of the polis where it sits.

History

The Observatory was funded in part by Aristeidis, the headmaster of the Dekatia Academy, because of his own love of the cosmos and Keranos as well as to show his appreciation for one of his favorite students- the current Overseer of the Observatory, Thanassis.

Tourism

Many who come to Meletis make a stop at the Observatory at night to take a closer look at the stars. It is a fond favorite among many who live and travel to the polis. There are several special events that the Observatory holds when the stars come into alignment or a meteor shower is predicted.
