The Brass Basilisk- Middle Class Tavern
Away from the docks and centered in the market district of Meletis, is The Brass Basilisk. This middle-class pub is frequented often by locals when they finish their shopping at the local food stalls or the shops. The pub is owned by Kelitia, a Lagonna centaur. She is friendly, but certainly won't stand for fights in her bar and has hired a staff of two servers, Faidon Kondakis (M, human) and Orestis Ganotis (M, leonin) and a "bouncer," Nikoleta (F, another Lagonna centaur and her sister) to help with her duties of running the pub. They serve ale and some wines that she can get her hands on occasionally. They have two spare rooms for people to sleep in and offer a very simple breakfast and dinner for those staying- eggs and bacon in the morning, maybe some bread, and usually catch of the day from hunters or stew for dinner.
Kelitia likes to tell tales of her travels throughout Theros including all the monsters and beasties she came across and her daring survival each time. No one is sure whether these are all made up, if only some of them are, or if they're all true.
Purpose / Function
To provide a relaxing and inviting place for hard-working folk to take a much-needed break, get a drink, and maybe even lay their head.
Architecture
Constructed of the typical white stone, this pub has quite a few wood accents with large beams running across the ceiling and slats put over the stone floor to provide a bit more of a homey feel. There is a large fireplace where the catch of the day is often roasted, filling the interior with the warm smell of cooking food. The bar is long and stretches across the back wall with two doors into the back rooms on either side. Near the main entrance, there is a set of stairs that goes up to the available rooms as well as Kelitia's and Nikoleta's rooms. The seating is pretty good if old and the walls are covered in strange mementos that Kelitia has picked up including what she believes to be the skull of a basilisk. Off in the corner near the sidewall is a raised platform area where Kelitia hires bards and musicians to entertain her guest. Typically, they aren't the best because Kelitia can't afford too much but they get the job done.
Tourism
The pub is usually quite busy at the end of the work shift with many stopping by to get a quick drink before they head home. It's also pretty popular during off-hours with some of the more raucous patrons. It's not particularly busy very late at night, though Kelitia remains open for the odd patron that might come stumbling in after an especially long day or looking for room and board.
