Meletis Metal Trades
One of the only permanent selling establishments in the market district of Meletis, one that is much more than a simple stall, is the blacksmith's shop. The main place that people in the polis can purchase weapons and armor, the Metal Trades focuses on bronze, non-magical items but has been known to be able to create enchanted items, though it takes quite some time and cost a fair bit of coin. If they don't have it in stock at the moment, they can make it. The shop is owned by Zoi Zervou, a trans female human.
Purpose / Function
The building was crafted through the hard work of the owner and her apprentice, Iosif Rodinoglou, to be a permanent smithy in Meletis. Due to the tools, space, and time needed to craft weapons and armor, Zoi knew that a stall or moving smithy was out of the question and the city needed one. So she stepped up to fill the void, especially since other more "traditionally feminine" roles did not suit her.
Architecture
The building is made with darker stone which does make it stand out from the white buildings that surround it. The interior is warm and the soot and scorch marks associated with the craft cover the walls and floors. The furnace and large anvil take up most of the backspace with the large wooden counter at the front marking the delineation between the customers' area and the workspace. There is an upstairs where Zoi sleeps and her apprentice rents a room. In a smaller closed room on the bottom floor is the only cooking/living space and it is mainly just an oven, a table, and a chair. They eat at the counter or in their rooms most of the time. Out behind the building is a smelter for heating the bronze and pouring it into molds. There's also a tanner's wrack, grinding stone, and models/targets for testing the items.
