The Intelligent Pen Booksellers

The small yet crammed-full bookshop lovingly named the Intelligent Pen is run by a halfling woman named Filippa Karahaliakou. She appears to be the only halfling in the city of Meletis. The shop is in the middle-class area of town and offers both rare and commonplace books for sale. It's inventory often changes but it a repository of information about Meletis and Theros, containing several history books that touch on any number of events, people, places, and myths.   She currently has for the players to buy:

Purpose / Function

To sell the finest books and the most-essential to anyone and everyone who's interested! Filippa is all about knowledge and wants to share it with the world.

Architecture

The white-beige stone used to make the building gives way to endless bookshelves on the inside. There are beautiful wooden beams across the roof and some that arch in lovely curves to break up all the straight lines. There are magical dancing lights floating about the shop in addition to candle chandeliers in the shape of celestial-like globes. There are ladders that extend up the shelves so patrons can reach the top and a second-floor balcony that house the overflow. There are several skylights in the room to let in light as well.

History

Filippa built the store from the ground up with a little help from her magic. The building was there and abandoned but Filippa was determined to improve it and make it her own. She saw its potential. However, the building did appear to be haunted, though it appears to be a friendly spirit. He, at least Filippa thinks it's a he, appears as a small man wearing a top hat. But he's always just out of sight and if you look directly at him, he vanishes. Books do seem to float about on occasion and rearrange themselves. She's always putting them back in order when morning comes.

Tourism

While the shop isn't the most happening place, because the general population of Meletis is a knowledge-loving people, Filippa does see regular customers and is able to stay comfortably in business. However, the higher-ups are more likely to visit the Library in the Dekatia Academy, however, that is not open to everyone.
