Kingslake Settlement in The World of Oless | World Anvil

Kingslake

The largest and richest of the settlements in The Great Dale, Kingslake was one of the original settlements in the area. The fertile soil and nearby lake meant easy access to food, and nearby forests and mines provided an abundance of lumber and ore used to help build the growing town. When the town was still under the control of Tillain, it was governed by a mayor, but over thirty years ago it fell out of control of The High Kingdom when a local adventurer and folk hero known as the Fisher King took leadership of the town. The Fisher King is said to have taken a spirit of the river as his lover, with whom he had a child. The Fisher King mysteriously vanished in the winter of 1702 AD.   For the past thirty years, Kingslake was nominally ruled by the Fisher King, who acted as a leader, protector, and mediator of the town's various guilds, boatspeople, and landwardens, from which a dozen of the most influential peform most of the actual governing of the town. The town maintains a small militia of around 150 people, who are typically lightly equipped, though they are well trained under the tutelage of the Gigantes warrior Bathrur, who is Captain of the Militia.   There are a few locations of note in Kingslake:
  • Lakeview Inn
