New Caliber

New Caliber is the largest city in the world of the March, and if you believe its inhabitants, the greatest. What started as a small trading post on Calibre Bay has grow into a true metropolis, home to over four million souls. The city spreads out from Empire Park on the waterfront, surrounded by the high-rise buildings the city has become famous for, but now being dwarfed by the first skyscrapers fashioned by the artificers of Draiden Cully University .   In the years since the Dragon War the city has grown substantially. Most refugees heading to The Imperial Republic of Addam enter the nation here, and while humans are still the largest single population, there is no majority species anymore. Densely packed ghettos of nearly every race in the world can be found here; gnome and orc districts filling blocks of streets, dwarf and goblin communities dug below street level. With the overpopulation and old cultural enmities, order has become a major problem in the city, falling under the growing new police force that has replaced the old city watch.   The city has also become the nexus of arcane research and artifice in the world, and the changes this has wrought on the city are obvious. Automatons can be found in nearly any industrial area, magically powered trains connect the districts by rail, and arcane lights keep all but the poorest neighborhood streets lit at night. Factories in The Sledges constantly produce magical goods for sale and export, and pipes running various alchemical solutions leak down on the streets below. Traditional magic stands tall as well, from the showbusiness of Illusory Row to the northern shore, where the six remaining Towers of Wizardry stand tall.

Government

There is likely not a single soul in New Caliber who believes the city government is fair and free of corruption. Many say that New Caliber has the finest politicians money can buy. Still, most people in the city will take their faulty democracy over the old system of Lords any day. In New Caliber, they believe, anyone can make their fortune and buy their own way to power.
