The History of Tarantellia so far

Ancient Avies are a bit of a myth on the Claw and Northern Continents. It’s said that before magic surged through the world, Avies lived in the clouds. Afterwards, they were thought to fall from the sky. Without any known lineages, Ancient Avies are considered a myth. Cities in the clouds couldn’t possibly be a thing, right?   Ancient Serpentfolk harnessed the world’s energies through experimentation of healing, resurrection, and necrotic magics. They viewed shedding their skin as an opportunity for rebirth. The Ruins of Kahlizon seem to imply that the Serpentfolk were wiped out by another community.   Jhen Whispershadow ‘s travel log suggests another ancient civilization that has been wiped out from modern day Tarantellian life, the Spiderfolk. These humanoids had the ability to shift between arachnid and humanoid forms and are thought to have lived in The Webbed Forest.

Current Species & Cultures

Tarants are born on and live in Tarantellia. Since the Magic Implosion, most people assume everyone living on the planet is a tarant. There are a few extraplanar folks who have taken up residence on Tarantellia, but they are a rarity in this century.

The Claw Continent

Avies are birdfolk. Unlike Ancient Avies, modern Avies were made of nature and magic. Avolotian Avies live in a secret society within the Arachnae Wilderness. They have feathered wings and live in the treetops. Northcrown Avies, on the other hand, have smooth bat-like wings. There are legends of a long-forgotten Avie, the Phoenix.   Croceans are people who take up residence in La Chiave a Croce. Their backgrounds and cultures vary greatly as the port-city is a core location.   Grimmers are the remaining people of the fallen Worldgate, known today as Grimgate. They use resources from their fallen city to rebuild. Their city is a tapestry of before and after. They are best known for their slam poetry.   Leaflings are typically travelers. They have the ability to read the future and see the unseen. Their highly personalized, embroidered clothing has inspired an increase in similar attire across the Claw Continent.   The Red Swarm have lived within the Corpse Woods long enough to see personal changes to their bodies. They can barely smell the stench of death and rely heavily on arcanesight to remain safe in their homeland.

Northern Continent

Ories are people living in Orie Country. In general, Ories follow the orders of the the Grecodar who has puppeteered a false war the Claw Continent in direct violation of the Orie-Claw Treaty and Alliance. He's been using the resources of war to increasingly improve technological innovations.   Scayruns are Ories who have been exiled for embracing magic. They live on the eastern outskirts of the mountain range, beyond the Sparkling Estuary. Their primary desire is to live a peaceful existence. They provide to the planet and the planet provides to them.

Needs & Relations

The Claw Continent

Northcrown Avies – They experience some trade with the outside world but mostly keep to themselves in the mountains. They’ve merged with their sister tribe to maintain numbers. At some point, they’ll need to find a way to revitalize their community.   Avolotian Avies – They need the outside world to leave them alone. They are working symbiotically with their environment.   Croceans – This community experiences high levels of trade with the rest of the continent through land and sea travel.   Grimmers – In attempts to rebuild from the Magic Implosion, Grimmers have received financial and labor assistance from La Chiave a Croce. Due to its overgrown and dangerous location, no one tries to take over the location anymore.   Leaflings – As a traveling group, Leaflings generally trade entertainment and wares in exchange for a safe place to park their caravans and food.   The Red Swarm - The Red Swarm is isolated from the rest of society. Living in the Corpse Woods, the Red Swarm have become nose-blind to the stench of death, along with most smells. Between their noseblindness and arcanesight, members of the community have a difficult time co-existing with others.
