Magic Implosion

Before Asma was visited by the Strum Sisters and The Grecodar was an obtainable rank in Orie Country - before the war on magic or Craei Grecofoxas rose to power - the greed and curiosity of a few left devastating consequences for the country.
The year was 1144 CD and the scene rests on Orie Country, a land barren of magical energy. On the far side of the mountains lay a small plot of land filled with enough magic to fuel the entirety of Orie Country. Magical phenomenon due to excess magic pooling aren't uncommon in Tarantellia; however, none in written history have occurred on such a large scale.   The specifics of what occurred were left behind with life as the Ories knew it. The most common tale includes a greedy wizard seeking to claim the powers for himself. For all intents and purposes, this story has an easy scapegoat that falls in line with Craei Grecofoxas's warnings about magic and its wielders. Regardless, the implosion left many Ories without homes.   The Crowning Comet passed over Orie Country. Many stories of the comet had been passed down from generation, gaining absurdities here and there as it went. The comet will make your husband 10 years smarter! It will turn your tongue blue. It will cause the mountains to dance and shift. And so on, and so forth. While the mountains do light up for 10 days after the comet passes overhead, giving the appearance of dancing, they do not shift. While the comet may appear like a blue tongue on the eve of its departure, there are no physical ailments caused by the proximity to the comet. And Ories may claim good ideas are brought by the comet's presence, there is nothing particularly special about the comet aside from the permissions it grants societally.   Due to these Orie Tales, few people saw any signs of danger in the days following the Crowning Comet's arrival. The rumblings of the earth were passed off as the mountain shifting. The strange pox marks, thought to be Comet's Kisses, that appeared on people's bodies were seen as a variation of the Comet's Tongue. No person saw changes in intelligence, but there was a newfound energy that fell upon everyone; everyone who set their intentions for the day, saw them come to fruition. There was no alarm.  After all, this was the story magic. The kind of magic only brought by comets.   They did not know the land was quaking. They did not know the sky was burning. They did not know the magic they were wielding.   In one particular moment, there was a sudden silence, followed by gusts of magical winds that brought buildings to the ground like they were a deck of cards falling to a light breeze. Magic poured over what is now the Shaca and Asmain communities of Orie Country. The quakes opened the ground. The Comet's Kisses became boils and rashes with no known cures. And the energy that coursed through the veins of some Ories tore them apart. They had not grown up understanding magic and did not know how to safely control it.   It was then that Craei Grecofoxas built his campaign against magic. On this platform, he vowed to rid Orie Country of magic alongside Bemere Tramaer, Orie Country's leader. He worked as Tramaer's advisor during the war against the Claw Continent. The Grecodar and its order are named to honor Grecofoxas.   Show Spoiler
Craei Grecofoxas was working with the mage before these events to start a war against the Claw Continent. Grecodar and the Order are aware that the current war-state of Orie Country is not exactly as it seems.
Which was more devastating: the immediate loss of land and life or the perpetual war on magic that followed?
