The innermost planets of the Sol System have long enjoyed peace and safety, but a chained sun will not remain bound for long.
The Inner World is generally understood as the expanse of space between the Sun and the Asteroid Belt. The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Tellus and Mars. While the planets are significantly smaller than those of the Outer World, with very few moons, the planets of the Inner World are so densely populated they can rival most of the outer giants.
The inner planets have been connected by interplanetary travel since the early spacefaring age. Mercury was one of the first planets to really invest in building a space fleet, and with the comparative ease of leaving orbit and shorter distances within the Inner World, a network of trade and travel was quickly established. Another contributing factor was the peacefulness and safety of the Inner World, well insulated from the dangers of the Oort Cloud and beyond.
It is safe no longer. The recent and devastating Solar Invasion has caused an upheaval of the power balance of the Inner World. The Scorching of Mercury destroyed the largest power player of the Inner World, and Venus and Mars position to prove which of them is best suited to fill the resulting power vacuum. While the invasion itself has been successfully contained to Mercury for now, the solar pulses also include mass ejections of electromagnetic radiation. Robust radiation shields have become an essential for spacefarers in the Inner World.
